| Quote Leigh24.7="Leigh24.7"Why do we have to park at the front of a shop these days - does anyone use their legs anymore?
There are many side streets around the town centre were you can park for 1 hour for nowt while you nip and buy your birthday card. These are within a couple of minutes walk from the town centre - and just a minute further away you can have 2 hours. If you park in my street you can have all day and it will take you less than 5 minutes to get to the centre of Leigh. Let's not keep slagging everything Leigh off. Just been on holiday darn sarf and spoke with two ladies from Ince who prefer to shop in Leigh every Friday - it isn't a bad little town you know.'"
think you need to read my post again
im all for leigh and the shops. when large companys come in then leigh as a small town they can not compete with the multi billion quid companys what i was saying was free parking for all and you can shop anywhere and save that extra penny, not every one is able and/or can be d to walk. i for 1 park on waterside and walk in leigh i'm thinking of other people who are thinking of the pennys in this recession and this would help the shops.
slagging leigh off don't think so

Sorry Moggie - nothing personal.
I was commenting on your bit about the cost of a birthday card - and that you could add 70p due to parking costs. I was stating that you didn't need to pay that if you were prepared to walk a few yards. Park on Tesco and nip accross the road to the market - simple. I would never buy a card from ASDA / Tesco etc and I have not changed my shopping habbits since Tesco opened. And judging buy the queues in Home & Bargain at 4.30pm last Friday evening , neither have many more. The more big names in Leigh the better - that's my view (No one think it might bring more shoppers in?). Maybe if the old brigade years ago had not been so selfish we may have had a M & S etc instead of charity & discount shops.
Sorry Fred - was that aimed at me? If so, please advise what the problem is.

| I know that, as it is, it's an eyesore - but it's a pity that the town loses another bit of it's industrial heritage.
It's a shame the idea to convert it to a pub/restaurant never took off - allowing the industrial architecture to remain, but creating something more aesthetically pleasing.

I dare say the structure was probably beyond repair (or at least without a HUGE investment that you'd never get back).

| A market trader told me that Tesco had bought the land and was intending to charge non customers to park, this is the place that all the Market traders have parked for free. If this is no longer free, it means the traders will park on the market carpark, which is why on Saturday I waited half an hour for a place to park, as approx half of the cars on there were traders.
The Market these days has to compete with the supermarkets and because of the high rents the stallholders already pay, the Market struggles enough as it is.
Im not keen on the new tescos to be honest, very expensive, offers always sold out not in stock, bad lay out.
I will be shopping at ASDA mainly and Morrisons too for my meat and Veg, when it opens.

| Dick never heard so much rubbish in my life.
Tescos have not and do not have any intention to buy that land, why do they need to buy that when they have amble parking land as it is.
You may have to change your veiws on big nasty tescos as out of all the so called big supermarkets they are actually the only ones showing interest in working along leigh centurions, and are currently having meetings with the firm on a weekly basis

| Its amazing how different people see things. For me,tescos is set out brilliantly, the quality of the produce is far superior to asda and just as cheap, the whole atmosphere at tescos is one of hello and welcome with loads of space between the aisles.
Go to asda and its like the wacky races and more stressful than supporting leigh.

| Agreed Tesco and Sainsbury are much more civilised than Asda.
Be interesting to see what the new Morrisons is like.
