Your right about one thing.
Fans of not just our club have stopped going primarily imo due to licenscing. This applies to clubs involved in that decision too.
Twinning is the latest crazy thoughtless initiative and re the recession it doesn't seem to affect footie crowds maybe them having p & r is the reason ?
Can you imagine Man U letting all their second team turnoutt for Tranmere Rovers for example or telling Aston Villa fans if you get relegated you can never get back into the Premiership.

It's not as black & white as 'attend or the club will die'. You can't put a gun to someone's head and make them want to do something. There are underlying reasons why people don't go as often, most of it has been done to death on this very forum.
For me, it's all linked in a very vicious circle. Many people at this level have fallen out with Rugby League, they feel disenfranchised (pardon the pun) and become less inclined to attend matches home & away. This has impacted on crowds and atmosphere which impacts negatively on the sense of occasion. Couple this with increased entrance fees and the recession and it's little wonder why crowds are down.
Personally, I now ask myself if paying £16 a fortnight is value for money anymore. For that price I can take my girlfriend to the cinema for 3 hours or go for a cheap meal. I can spend 4 hours in the pub and drink 8 pints whilst socialising with family friends. If I want to do that whilst going to the rugby, the price starts racking up very quickly. Now, I'm not on a bad salary, so how must it be for people who can only just scrape by each week?
By all means, blame the lapsed supported for Leigh RL's problems, but your completely missing the point.'"

I agree with Demon, fully 100% agree with Demon.
Everyone knows it can be an expensive day out following our team and no-one is insisting that people are obligated to come and pay and watch us. We all have choices in life.
The fact remains that You (we) can not continue to be a Leigh Supporter if there is no longer a club in existence.
If we all choose to only follow the team away, how long do you think we will be able to fulfill our away fixtures for?
Crazy !!

Both paul HHZ and salford lad are right.
It feels like the club are working hard in some areas like working with wigan in the community etc but it seem like they've forgot they have a support base to please and 80minutes of rugby doesn't seem to be enough anymore.
Combine that with licensing, no P&R,the propping up of failed sl clubs, and championship clubs effectively being taken over by sl clubs and people are just getting disallusioned.

No flares and smoke bombs thats why there is no atmosphere.
Why didn't I see it before. It's not supporters not showing there support for the club and I'm just talking £££.
This is my first post for atleats 5 years so long my user has been deleted. I've had to post becuase I so shocked that so "fans" or so daft

Can't believe that someone will go to away matches but not home ,can't get my head round that one .I for one don't find the atmosphere any better at other grounds ,can't say I felt a great atmosphere when we went Fev the other week standing behind the sticks in the freezing cold .The only way we can achieve the atmosphere Wigan and other clubs have is to get more fans through the gate and away fans too .

The fans in the age group you highlight will still turn up and watch the 80 minutes of rugby whatever extra is put in front of them.You talk as if hundreds of this age group post threads on here when you can count them on not too many fingers. Leigh obviously need new fans but it beggars belief that folk who have watched for donkey's years are treated with contempt. |
