Quote: mr. chairman "ok i've been thinking , yes we are starting an academy that will cost 200 k a year to run derek said so let's save some money don't have an academy and let wigan warrington st. helens do the leg work for us then rape and pillage these clubs for there best talent when these kids come through they are on peanuts we would be able to afford to give them a decent wage to come to shangrila. don't forget these pubs have to offer these kids a contract in there final year if the contract is not good enough we can nick them yes a small fee may be paid but we will have a few bob in the bank from the savings made . all the top talent in the north west come through these academies it will take ten years for us to catch them. we just need a few scouts attending the academy games and snatch em'"
If your board agree with your suggestion your club will never achieve long term success. All the recently successful clubs have a clear development plan for their youngsters. They invest in the future because they have proved over the years that it is the best way to advance their club.
Just thinking you can pick and choose good young players from other clubs just when you want them by offering extra cash is pie in the sky. Saving £200k will not go far on players salaries.
Your suggestion is backward and blinkered.
