I agree with him on the salary cap. I guess we should welcome ex players speaking out about the game as a contrast to the business as usual messaging. We are on a downward spiral so something needs to change.
Salary cap has not worked to prevent clubs going to the wall, nor has it helped even up the competition. It has levelled down and starved us of elite players. We have lost pace with the NRL and RU salary caps. Things is we have a number of high net worth individuals in the elite competition. I would argue that the following clubs could afford an increase.
Huddersfield - Ken Davy ~ £75M+
Wires - Simon Moran - £150M+, Stuart Middleton £70M+
Wigan - Mike Danson - £1Bn+
Leeds - Paul Caddick £150M+
Hull FC - Andrew Thirkill and David Hood (new consortium)- £500M+
Catalans Dragons - Bernhard Guash - £??M
St Helens - Eamonn McManus - £46M
Leigh - Derek Beaumont - £20M+?
Hull KR - Neil Hudgell - £??M

Ha ha. Cas are owned by the family of Fulton Foods who were bought by Poundland. Salford are community owned and brassic. No idea on Wakefield.
I guess my point was a good number of clubs are owned by very wealthy individuals.

Yeh I get what you was saying I was not digging you out. I am just frustrated that it’s clubs that can’t afford the cap we on now are the ones holding it back.
Anyway talking of Brassic can Vinnie and the gang not help out

Yeah I know. I never took it that way. RL will have to decide if it will let the wealthier clubs prosper or will continue to hold back due to the weakest.
The salary cap is a failed experiment (In my view).

| Bradford in its pomp 20 thousand plus crowds where did all that money go.
You have Blackpool and Rhyl, when I was a kid they were the 2 places to for a day out. Back then they were similar both had a fair and lots of arcades and other attractions. Blackpool kept reinvesting the owners in Rhyl too took the money and had fancy cars and holidays in costs del towyn or something. Rhyl these days is just a retirement place.
Now some of the clubs in rugby took the money and partied and some others took the money and put it back and yes some clubs got lucky and had big money investors onboard.
The only positive with our given system is the clubs who can’t and don’t have it spend have not gone silly throwing what little money they have to improve league position. Some Union clubs done that and went bust, so I’m glad our guys did not sucked into. End of day people that took the money and took a holiday instead of reinvesting have hurt the sport.
These are just examples of what I have seen in my life growing up there will be many other places where the people just took the profits and just went full party mode. Now yeh it’s their right to do that but not reinvesting will leave you potless in the end.
