Nice highlight tribute on the Wolves media youtube channel. They produce some good content these days and well worth subscribing to.

Brings back some good memories of a time when watching Wire was more fun. We always had a source of hope when Briers was on the field. It was a better time for the game in general, the standard and excitement was better. Some great high points with the drop goals to win the 2006 playoff at Wembley and at the end of the first Challenge Cup win against Hudds.
Without a doubt the greatest Wire of my lifetime watching us.

| Enjoyed that, a club legend perhaps even a league legend. What I would give to be watching players with his skill set in a wire shirt these days.

| Has he been offered a new job anywhere?
I was gutted when he retired early. Best player Wire have ever had

| A real icon of this club. The deflation in the terraces if his name wasn’t read out pre-game was all consuming! There was a window where he was our only hope, and if he turned up the team stood a chance.
A real shame that he has left on a negative note, his retirement from playing was also a real shame that it was out of his hands.

| One of the best examples of TS’s man management skills to boot.
I always laugh when Saints fans dismiss him in favour of Long and Martin. If he had played in those teams he would have been a revelation.

Rumoured to be joining the Wigan setup.

Tony Smith turned him from temperamental mercurial talent into one of our best all time players.
However, by means of correction, he did play 6 games for Saints and was dropped for Bobby Goulding prior to the 1997 Challenge Cup Final having helped get them there.

Difficult to argue Saints made the wrong decision either though given how successful we were during Briers' time at Warrington.

| I wonder what would have happened to Briers had he not joined us in 1997. Probably been understudy to Goulding/Martyn for another year or so then got his shot in the first team after Goulding left but I'm not sure he would have been Ellery Hanley's cup of tea. Long was a better option at that time because he was a bit more solid and polished, Briers had a couple of mistakes in him every game in his early days and playing in Saints where there were more big games those might have come under more of a microscope than they did at Wire. Also Long in those early days had the extra weapon of searing pace, he could hit a gap and run it home. He lost a bit of pace after his bad injury in 2001 but early Long was rapid. That Saints team used to break from distance especially when Long was running into holes he was put through by Martyn and that was a big weapon.
I think Briers might have ended up coming to a mid table club a couple of years later anyway, and he got more first team action under his belt through coming to us.

Yeah good luck to him and Henderson. I think Henderson has a good enough pedigree as coach and assistant coach to get a job and hopefully that will be somewhere he can make a mark. I think he would be a good fit at Salford to be honest but that's not an easy job to take on at the minute, there is a lot of uncertainty at that club.

| Great upwards move for him. Not beyond the realms of possibility that he comes back to us as head coach after a successful stint, in the fullness of time.

Briers would have been a legend at any club he stayed at. Would have had more passing options at Saints and I believe they would have dominated that Leeds team had he stayed. Andrew John's said Briers is best passer he's ever seen, just think about that....!
