As we all know contracts mean nothing these days. All it means is that if anyone wants to sign him it will cost just that bit more

So contracts mean quite a lot.

Rugby league clubs don't tend to be that cashed up, so there's a big difference between a player being available on the transfer market for £200k, or being a free agent.

And also it does mean the club can refuse to sell. Although people say well if you have a disgruntled player he won't play well anyway, if a player has more than a year of his contract and he is playing the game of "I'll just sulk and play badly for however many years till I'm a free agent" he may find that when he is a free agent the world has moved on and he's not the hot property he was a couple of years ago.

Clark knows that he has reduced his bargaining power in terms of wanting out by signing for 4 years rather than say 2, so most likely he has looked around and thought Warrington is the best option.

Its an NRL way that they don't pay transfer fees now as it goes on the salary cap, hence why no-one would take Hardaker I believe. Cronulla made a statement about it not long back.

Has plenty of time to try the NRL when this contract ends. Will still be only circa 27-28

It means the club hold the cards really. I doubt (especially while Smith is in charge) that we would stand in the way if a player wanted to leave for the NRL. But it gives us the security to find a replacement before we let him go, and to negotiate a buy back agreement if he wants to come back.

Smart move, great for the club and the competition.

We have signed up the best hooker in the league. There is no one else I would prefer. Perfect age as well.

Is that true? I had a look around but could only find articles confirming any transfer fee paid to Sam Burgess by the Rabbits wouldn't count on the cap...?

I honestly thought he was gonna go to the NRL. One of about 3 players I enjoy watching in SL so well done on Tying him down for a few more years
