He took me to Wilderspool in the late 70s & early 80s, and supported me as a junior and youth at Woolston Rovers until I left home in 1987.

We watched the football at Old Trafford together supporting United, but by the late 90s he was back watching Woolston in the Conference.

Ill health blighted the last 10 years of his life, but we got to go to the opening game at the Halliwell Jones together.

RIP Dad.

Condolences from a Leyther - I feel for you mate.

My Dad introduced me to RL (and Leigh) as a child, and we used to go to games together. He transported me everywhere when I was playing RU and we used to natter non-stop about Leigh and how to put them to rights. But for him, I'm not sure I would be as passionate a supporter as I am these days. I miss him to have a good chat to and to tell him how grateful I am for introducing me to the 'Greatest Game'.

Condolences to you and yours. Nobody will ever be able to take those precious memories away from you.

We had a good few trips to Wembley together too, first for me in 1978 for the Leeds v Saints CC Final, then the 1983 Milk Cup, FA Cup & Charity Shield, 1985 FA Cup & Charity Shield and finally the 1990 FA Cup Replay.

Unfortunately I had to go to our more recent Huddersfield & Leeds CC Final victories without him.

Always remember the good times. It's great to have had a dad you looked up to.

My dad took me along in the late 50's. I remember him shouting me to watch "Bev" when someone kicked ahead for him. We were stood to the left of the posts. Bev chased it and scored just before the dead ball line. I thought me dad was real clever and thought how quick "Bev" was.
Frazer, Bevan, Challinor, Naughton, O'Grady, Greenough & Edwards etc.

Sorry to hear that I feel for you sincere condolences, seemed like a good all round Dad as said previously you have all those wonderful memories.

Hey Shinymc, sorry to hear your bad news bud, same happened to me a little while back. Its a tough time, but just remember the man he was and it will get easier. Take care mate.

Shinymc you may have lost your Dad but you still have your memories. Write them down and keep them somewhere you can dip into them occasionally. You can also pass them onto any of his grand kids if and when they appear.

Sorry to hear, something we all must face in time. It's good that today's dads can still introduce their kids to live rugby league, something that has been lost to most fans of super-expensive premier league soccer clubs.
