| obviously inspired by the bailey signing, we're in an age where smith has always said the right player for us also had to be the right sort of person, or quality to add to our squad. Which is a modern day manner of speaking.
That said, who do we think were weird signings, that were doomed from the off and would never ever work.
for me, MArtin Dermott when we signed him from wigan in 97, it just didn't feel right, and besides he'd been missing from the wigan first team for two years, i thought he'd retired. He didn't last long.
Brendan Tuuta, was another, i feckin hated that fella with a passion, it felt we were really scraping the bottom of the barrell when DV2 signed him.

| I wouldn't say 'doomed from the off' but I never felt comfortable with the Martin Gleeson signing.

| Andy Currier, Richie Eyres and Paul Hulme.
Signing players that won tiles in their pomp at other clubs didn't work back in the day.(Jiffy being an exception) It certainly didn't feel right cheering any of them on, and they never got close to replicating their Widnes form. ( not even within a million miles of it infact. They were garbage - but Currier especially, was just so bad it was sickening).
Bailey doesn't have any good form to try and replicate in the first place. So this makes it even worse. ..
These threads are just making me more angry by the day...!!!

Currier is a great example, Mark Jones came in at the same time and my old man and older brother were livid that we were signing a house like him.
we got a bit of decent form out of paul hulme in SL1, but again, i remember a lot of people being irate at the time.
much like myself and

I hated alan hunte, we'd signed other people from saints, i'd never really had a problem with anyone else at that point, Hunte, couldn't stand. Presumably that we were paying him a packet at the time we were struggling for cash.

| Andy Currier was more an after the event dislike for me. (Obviously "dislike" doesn't do justice to my feelings).

| Andy Gregory - never wanted to be here and used us simply as a staging post.

| Andy Gregory was better for you than leeds. Was he in halves with Paul bishop when you won premiership?
looking at thread you have had plenty though!
Leeds paid you £30k for Alan rathbone once upon a time. He got his jaw broken in first match and never played again.

Still not sure why we signed him, or what position he was suppose to be playing in - seemed we'd made the same "mistake" with Michael Monaghan, but thankfully that worked out well once he'd switched to hooker.
