Just wondering if anyone knows where he stands at the minute. Is he coming back next year?

There is an article about Mike Cooper on the Guardian web page & it reads as if he is hoping to spend as long as possible Down Under. He seems to have bought big time into the lifestyle & training regime in Oz.

How are we supposed to treat Cooper.

Should he not be regarded as a Judas that we hate?

There was a lot of discomfort on here about Daryl Clark suggesting that he might be open to a move to the NRL, and do we want players like that, that just see Warrington as a stepping stone until the NRL come calling and then they go running off.

In Coopers case he was actually one of our own home grown players, and he went running off to the NRL when they came calling.

So surely that is a lot worse than if Clark goes.

What I want is players that want to play for the primrose and blue shirt and will say when the NRL come calling you can stick your Bondi Beach where even the sun in Oz don't shine, give me a drizzling cold day in Padgate any day of the week if it means I can be a Wire.

Cooper was on the boo boys list at the time and when they announced he was leaving a selection of fans wasn't bothered.

As for Clark he hasn't even out on a primrose and blue shirt and he is planing for the NRL in 4 years time.

I think you are going to be disappointed. You may not be in touch with reality on this one. Mind you having read the last sentence again it could be your idea of a joke.

I was coopers biggest fan for years.. i was convinced he was going right to the top..... he had everything needed in his game.. plus a nasty streak a mile wide when he needed to have one.

BUT... with us, he never really reached that level... he never really pushed on and became the player i thought he could be.. Yes he had some outstanding games (the saints game especially).

many people sneered when he joined the NRL, saying he would be back in a year.. But he has been a huge hit. They love him over there and he seems to be fulfilling that early potential... So what happened?... is it

a) Cooper didn't progress playing for us because he was stuck in a comfort zone? Was he just going through the motions? Did he need a change of scene to motivate himself?
b) The NRL is actually easier to play in for a prop?

if the answer is A, then should we ever look to bring him back?.. Would he ever want to come back?

It is a bit surprising that a guy that was an interchange prop over here should suddenly become a permanent fixture in the NRL in his first year. I don't watch the NRL so can not comment on possible reasons for the transformation.

As far as bringing him back is concerned, I think there is little chance; a) He will be getting paid a lot more b) It's sunny and c) They don't sell the Daily Mail. Other than the problem of contact with friends and relations, it seems a no brainer.

It does suggest player application doesn't it.... he should have cemented himself in the first team really... in the end no one really batted an eyelid when he left.. which was a shame.

Instead of the discussion being 'how are we going to fill the void left by cooper'.. it was 'good luck mike'

I cant see him returning.

Well he did state that his conditioning was different. And as you imply, perhaps he put everything into his performance to 'break through'.

Is the role of the Aussie prop subtly different to over here, and did that make him better suited to his role ?

If Asotasi is typical of their props, I am not surprised he has done well.

Look at Coopers strengths rather than his weaknesses and that should explain the difference in his performance.

Cooper was always strong in defence, he's tough, he's uncompromising.
The NRL is built on strong defence, not doing anything silly in your own half and playing the percentages.

The SL is more flowing, off the cuff, expansive and attack focused....in other words Coopers weaknesses.
The lad had iron hands which was always (imo) his biggest weakness, the amount of times he switched off in attack frustrated me. I will add I was never really a knocker of Cooper.
