For me, its not that we lost, or that we lost to Widnes, its the manner in which we lost.... Deliberately weakened, almost unmotivated, its the type of defeat that has almost become the norm over the last few years, and its the type of defeat that makes the competition close to being a farce.
The fact that the so-called big clubs now pick and choose games in which they can raise their game, is an insult to the paying public and also to other sides in the league - If I'd have been a Hull KR, Wakefield or Salford fan on Friday night watching that, then I'd have been well hacked off at the way Wire meekly folded, while their watching coach idly sat watching, chewing gum.
The ironic thing is, if this season was played under the old system of top of the table being champions, then we would have one of the best run-ins of all time - Instead, we seem to have a situation where nobody seems to want to finish top any more.
Yes, I appreciate the play off system is all about peaking for the big games and making sure your players are ready for the play-off games, but as a product for the watching public the whole league system is a joke - Its little wonder that the media pay us such scant attention... If even the teams taking part know that the games are relatively meaningless, then why should the papers or TV bother reporting or promoting them?
