| Any regular Academy watchers have an opinion? He's gone to Barrow on loan for a season.

I think he's signed for them on a permanent basis.

We have approximately 7 U19's from this season that will be ineligible in 2014, and Scott is one of them. I think he was originally a Wigan St Pats lad, and up until this year was playing at full back. I can remember Briers bellowing at his positional play at an early season match at Wilderspool and shortly afterwards Saltonstall took up the FB role and Scott moved to the wing. But he is a promising player, fast with a good build and the handling skills to match. He has scored a lot of tries from high kicks to the corner (from SH Declan Patton), and looks just as athletic as Monaghen, but he still looks to be settling into the wing position and doesn't look the 'natural' of Johnson on the other wing - hardly surprising though. He is also a good goal kicker.
I think this is a cute move for him, he definitely deserves a chance to further his development and I am personally delighted if he is off to Barrow.
Played 22, 17 tries, 58 goals
All just IMO as I really know sod all about RL.

A good solid prop. Good move for him as he had heard nothing from Swinton and didn't know where he would be playing next year.

| Scott and Jack should give us more go than last term ... well hope so anyway
The BBC report is wrong as well .... Scott has signed on a permanent deal at the Raiders......NOT on loan

| What is the difference between a one year loan and a one year permanent deal?
Splitting hairs?
Swinton signed Jack Morrison on a one year permanent deal from Warrington last year (not a loan as quoted by the BBC) and now Barrow have signed him this year from Warrington - how can that be?

Interesting question. If the agreement was between SL clubs then I would have thought it would be straightforward. A loan means the parent club pays the contract, but the recipient club pays his match fees. The RFL rules state that he is still on the books of the parent club and counts to their salary cap. A one year permanent deal is 'what it says on the can'.
But we seem to have a very ambiguous situation when the recipient club is from the Championship, and I suspect this mainly arises because a lot of Championship clubs just sign players for the season, not on a eg 2 yr deal. Is a 'permanent 1 yr deal' really for 12 months, or just the season ?
Personally, I am still waiting for Wire to announce the movement of Morrison and Taylor as it should clarify whether it is likely to be temporary or permanent. If I had to make a wild guess, it would be that Jack is no longer on our books, but that Scott may still be via a written or verbal agreement.

Either way Chaz, presumably we will have it covered in the move that we have first dabs should said youngsters progress well at their respective new clubs, whatever the contractual arrangements?
It's not like these lads have let themselves down, more a consideration that they have nowhere to go within our own club structure at present?

Yes, good point. A few UK players have gone to Oz with that written into their contracts, haven't they ?
