| ...just an idea I had....
as a sign of mutual respect for a great servant of both clubs and the game, from all RL fans attending the Grand Final on Saturday...could we all sing "There's only one Mike Gregory...." on 13th minute of the game?
As this is the first major final between Warrington and Wigan since Mike sadly passed away in 2007, I thought it would be a good way to remember Mike, one that would receive global coverage and would communicate to the world the message of our fantastic 'Rugby League family'.
Thoughts?
PS - No offence will be taken if people don't think this is a good idea or even doable! It was just an idea.....thanks.

As discussed with you on another thread, I think that it is a great idea. However, sadly I don't think that it is "do-able", how do 'we' get the message out there, or is that just me being pessimistic?

getting the message out this close to the game is a challenge fir sure....but twitter, facebook, forums like this means a message can very quickly get out.
The hardest part will be people actually remembering to do it in the heat of battle (ie during the match).

| Another Wire great died this week, Albert Naughton and hardly a mention anywhere...He had as big if not bigger influence then Mike Gregory had on the team. Only old flatulents such as myself remember him.

| It may be a little late in the day to make this possible just one day before as i'm not sure it will get out to anough people.
But maybe get it spread across this site and if anyone's on Twatter or MyFace or owt like that get it spread across there.
Because, it is a great idea.

Well I saw on Sky Sports News that Warrington are wearing black armbands at the game in memory of Albert Naughton.

| Sorry Oxford Exile but I don't agree with this. I find this current trend of mawkish, maudlin behaviour distasteful.
As sad as Mike Gregory's illness and death was, it happened nearly six years ago, you can't go on commemorating it. If it was an anniversary, fair enough but as Albert Naughton's death shows, club legends die, it's a fact of life.
It's not our first final since he died, it's not Wigans first final since he died, it's not the first time we've played each other since he died. The first final between the clubs is a very tenuous link for something like this.

And you'll rise high today,

This..... It seems to me that we find any excuse nowadays to have a minutes silence/applause, its almost like its become a trend to find something to clap about - It even got to a point at Chelsea that they clapped for a bloke who had got sacked!!

Likewise Bob
In the past few years, we've had minutes silences/applauses for stewards, club workers and fans (including that fella who died a couple of weeks ago).
Now, it's very sad, but do we need to have them at the start of matches for all and sundry.
Lets just keep it for ex players/managers who've served 50 matches +, and not make it too maudlin.
Don't get me started on minutes applauses. There was one on Sky for a Hull game a couple of years ago, and I thought I'd tuned onto an ITV game show. Extreme bad taste
