I know I am getting a little ahead of myself but reading about the doom & gloom regarding the current format & possible low attendances / fan apathy got me thinking how to appease everyone.


So based on a 12 team Super League, I would propose following:

Week 1 - 8th - 12th in straight knockout, 1st - 4th rest week

5th v 12th

6th v 11th

7th v 10th

8th v 9th

Week 2 - Basically quarter finals again straight knockout

1st v Lowest ranked winner

2nd v 2nd Lowest ranked winner

etc

Week 3 - Semi Finals

Get away from this silly Club-call & keep to league ranking

Highest ranked v Lowest ranked winner

2nd Highest ranked v 2nd Lowest ranked winner

Week 4 - Grand Final

This way all teams have an involvement (teams at the bottom have an incentive to get a home tie in week one), top 4 have a rest week but then potentially 3 games on the trot, Sky get there games to show & as all games are in a knock out environment attendances up & high intensity games.

No way would all 12 teams be involved in the play off's; not even the RFL are that incompetent?!!!

I would imagine it woul be top 6 ad the format will be the same as what the Under 19s are in this season

Could you imagine the furore if someone won it from the bottom half of the table?!?

It's an idea, and fair play in coming up with it, but all teams in a playoff series doesn't work. Especially as they are bringing in relegation again, are they not?

Top 5 or top 6 works so much better:

Top 5

Week 1 - 1st straight to SLGF, M1 - 2nd v 5th, M2 - 3rd v 4th
Week 2 - M3 - Winner of ESF1 v ESF2, winner to Grand Final

Top 6

Week 1 - M1 - 1st v 2nd (winner to SLGF), M2 - 3rd v 6th, M3 - 4th v 5th
Week 2 - M4 - Winner of M2 v Winner of M3
Week 3 - M5 - Loser of M1 v Winner M4 (winner to SLGF)

But then no doubt Sky would not go for the lack of matches as it means a lack of revenue, advertising etc.

haven't they already said what the play offs would consist off, in the 2x12>>>3x8 set up?

But you see ,if the RFL stuck two fingers up to sky & reduced the play off to the top four teams then the rest of the season would be given a kick up the jacksy in an effort by the "top teams" to actually make the play offs instead of being stuck in their present top 8 comfort zone. Maybe then we wouldn't be bored come play off time & the seasons finishing positions decided with 3 games to go !

Yes, I am sure they did. It was to be a top 6 playoff with 1st playing 6th, 2nd vs 5th etc

Top four would suit me; ' if you are not good enough to make the four, then you don't deserve to be the winner'.

Just get rid, whoever finishes top of the league is champion and top six go into expanded wcc.

Or, a top three play off.
League leaders straight to the GF with a week off.
Teams 2 & 3 then play off for the other GF place.
That would raise the intensity of SL amongst the top teams.
No resting players then as an unexpected loss could mean losing a top three place which would be very difficult to recover.

However many teams are in the league, there should be a maximum of 6 in the playoffs IMO.
