| The Warrington Guardian, says its celebrating 160 years at the heart of Warrington.
They are in overdrive to let us know it too, with big headlines and a special keepsake supplement in this birthday edition, 12/9/13.
Is this a brash statement from a company that sold out decades ago to newsquest? shut down their printing offices putting many local people out of work. Printing shifted up to Scotland where its despatched to Bolton to be regionalised again and despatched in smaller quantities to be delivered to our local shops.
Only a handful of local employees at the Academy in town.
Many price increases of late, with the lasts rise being around a whopping 50%, with no noticeable rise in standards other than the additional supplement which contents were already printed within the Guardian pages prior to the revamp.
I don't like to dish anything that is representative of my beloved town, but i consider the Warrington Guardian little more than a cash in on our towns name.

| Newspapers are a dying medium and local papers are having a particularly tough time, especially with them now receiving a lot less advertising revenue. It's not the best of local papers, but embarrassing typos aside its far from the worst and hugely important to the town and its identity as a LANCASHIRE community.

It's far better than the Evening Gazette that we get up here. I've had quite a few dealings with the guardian over the years and they were good enough to print a sizeable story a few weeks ago about some research I have been doing for both myself and the Wire. No complaints from me.

| I like the reference to Lancashire yet I fail to see how the Warrington Guardian is an advocate of it.
Its not even printed in our country let alone Lancashire.

Sorry that was badly worded. My point is that Warrington is a town and community in its own right, and should never be emalgamated into weird, made up places like Merseyside or Greater Manchester.

Your right and badly worded or not, I still like your reference to Warrington being a Lancashire town. And so may it continue to be.
Cheshire don't even have a cricket team of merit and the cheese is pants too.

An interesting debate for another thread I guess. After mentioning typos I have just opened the paper- "[E]mergency crews were called to make the bridge was safe".

There should be a law that only Lancashire cheese can be used on a hot jacket spud.....
