I am disappointed with the club for not reducing the cost of the tickets for the play off matches especially for season ticket holders as some other clubs have done. I cant see a sell out and can see a dissappointing wire turnout just when we need the support.

So what you think is that the league fixtures that everybody has said all year are meaningless, and teams aim to finish 4th or 5th rather than 1st, should be priced higher than the playoffs?

Other teams have to do what they have to do. Not all of them have the best fans in the league.

The attendance next Saturday will be lower than the league fixture between the two teams was, but the main reason is the play off system itself is too overblown creating an unappetising first round for the top four teams.

We know Wire will play two home games in this series, and possibly three games in total, prior to the final itself. We also know our continued progression doesn't depend on whether or not we win next week. Therefore plenty of people will save their money for bigger games to come.

The week three fixtures and obviously the Grand Final sell themselves no problem. They're the truly big games. The week one fixtures though aren't as big as they should be, and the week two fixtures (again from a top four teams perspective) feel like an inconvenient punishment for week one defeat, so lots of fans don't fancy the added cost of them either.

For me they need to reduce the number of play off games (which should happen anyway in 2015 as I assume a reduction to 12 teams will see us revert to a top six format), and also eliminate games where you can't be knocked out. If you know you'll have at least one more game to attend whether you win or lose it makes it a lot easier to decide to skip the first one.

Incidentally, as for the prices themselves, I personally think the week one fixtures for all teams should be free to season ticket holders, even if that does mean full price for the rest of us. If someone isn't used to paying week in week out, but is already thinking about the cost of next year's season ticket, they might not fancy £20 on the door two or three weeks in a row. Including the week one games would reward them for season long loyalty and boost the attendances.

I appreciate RL is a reasonably good value for money sport compared to some others - football in particular where ticket prices are concerned - but if a team plays in all three play off weeks plus the Grand Final, as we did last year, it will cost roughly £90 for an adult to attend all four games (based on 3X£20, and £30 for the final). For those in the North/East Stands and looking for better seats at Old Trafford it is significantly higher, but you can argue they choose those areas and there are cheaper alternatives.

£90 in a short time (probably all coming out of one month's wage packet) is a lot of money though, and as I say that's for one adult. If you're taking kids then you've got added costs, including doubling your outlay for the final because there are no concessions other than family tickets which might not be suitable depending on how many you have.

No one will want to miss the Grand Final, and most regular supporters will want to be there in week three too, but the first game in particular, and second if it's in week two, are easy misses for those who struggle to afford the lot. I'll be at all our play off games this year but I consider myself fortunate to be able to say that at this stage. Plenty of people will struggle to find the money, and there's nothing wrong with questioning why more isn't done to help these people, especially with the low attendances at these games in previous years being there on record for all to see.

I'm consistently amazed by rugby league supporters who implore their clubs to spend money on top players to reignite interest in the game, and then baulk at the idea of having to pay to watch their club's biggest games of the season. Tight sods.

Does the club or the RFL set the prices for the play-offs?

1) A play off game where you cannot be knocked out can hardly be classed as one of the "biggest games of the season"

2) There's a difference between being "tight" and simply not having the disposable income to afford up to four extra games in successive weeks - if you were in that situation I'm sure you'd look at the overall picture rather than spending all your money in week one and two

Spot on Browny, you've posted what I have been thinking.

People want us to sign players like Billy Salter & Benji Marshall and then moan like anything at paying £19 to see 2 of the best teams in British Rugby League in a play off game.

I wonder if this reflects the poor standard of rugby league on offer these days.

In wendyball people will pay far more than that because for all its faults, the Premier League puts out some of the world's elite players and you get exciting entertainment. You've just had Mesut Ozil coming in, one of the most exciting players in the world. SL would be like this if clubs were signing Benji Marshall, Billy Slater etc.

When you have average players and a poor product like Super League, fans won't want to shell out much for it.

Alternatively I might be missing something and actually its a great sport just the RFL isn't marketing it enough to convince the fans that its great.

Why would you spend 80 minutes watching Warrington when you could spend that time in the pub watching football and probably spend less than the £19 on a round of drinks for your mates?

Tbh im fed up with hearing about how season ticket holders should get preferential treatment, NO im not one purely because i work a stupid shift pattern so can not always make every game some games ive used holidays to attend. As for other non season ticke holders maybe they can not afford to pay for a season ticket in one go or even use the credit system that the club offers this doesnt mean they miss some games but overall will spensd more than a season ticket holder if they go to every home game, end of the day you know what you are entering into when you choose to be a season ticket holder or not so dont bother bleating about it when you have to pay the same as everyone else.

I'm amazed that anybody could possibly believe that season ticket holders shouldn't receive beneficial treatment.

For so many reasons the commitment that season ticket holders make to the club allows a club to not only function but to exist.

I'm assuming that post was aimed at me, given that (I think) I'm the only person in the thread that had mentioned letting season ticket holders into a play off game as part of their season ticket.

For the record I'm not a season ticket holder either, and I won't be next season even if they were to announce in advance that they were going to take up my suggestion. Hope that helps.

It would undoubtedly improve the attendance next Saturday if it happened, although I appreciate the club will gain more from 10,000 people buying tickets (or paying in) than they would from 6,000 buying them and another 6,000 getting in at no extra charge. That would be the argument against from a business perspective, but I still think it would be a good idea from a supporter's perspective.

This is a good idea from Huddersfield.

The Giants have also launched a new initiative called SKY SWAP where any home Super League game that is moved for Sky TV (change of day) after the start of the season will see Season Ticket holders eligible for discounts off a 2015 Season Ticket. Terms and conditions apply.
