This year's RFL review has given Warrington's Academy a Grade 2 (Good). Leeds, Wigan and Saints were the only clubs to receive Grade 1 (Outstanding).
The report would suggest that as a club we aren't far off reaching Grade 1 status- well done to all involved.
Quote: "The Warrington Wolves Academy has some outstanding features and the organisation also recognises the small improvements required in specific areas.
The Academy has produced players for England Youth and Academy as well as players who have featured in the first team.
The Academy has created an environment that reflects the values of the club.'"

Can't seem to find anything, but if memory serves it was done on a traffic light system last year.

Along with any information regarding the specifics that require improvement to achieve the top grade

| Was one of the points for improvement that they never sign any players with skill they just sign kids on their size, that was picked up by the auditors on here

| The U16s were well beaten last night by the Wakefield academy.

Scarily true .... don't want them flighty little buzzy things getting in the way in the gym. They have to go to Salford at 14, then Wire buy them back when they're 19
They also only need a pitch 50 yrds wide - last time an acadamy winger saw the ball it had Steeden written on it.

| I'm probably adding 1 & 1 and getting 5, but I just wonder if we were docked marks in the OFSTED because we took too few youngsters from our area. I can hardly see where else we could have been criticised with Bastian around (at the time) and our set up.

That wouldn't make any difference. It is about finished players taking the step up regardless of source. And no matter what we would like to see there is not a large pool of top grade talent locally.
The Academy is about development but it is interesting to see the U16s only managing to get results against Salford and Cumbria and being well beaten by Wigan, Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield and St Helens. Not a great set of results for a Grade 2 club. Hopefully they will be perform better next year as some of the U15s have had a lot of game time at this older group.
In balance, The U19s have started to put together results after a slow start.

| Maybe there are some 'internal' problems at Warrington that need sorting before they can attract the best junior players!
I've been stood next to parents when they've been told to move their son to a certain favoured local club or he wont be given an acadamy place, as the scouts "can't be bothered watching more than a couple of local sides". I fully understand that they can't watch every team, and other SL clubs have their 'favoured' local sides, but this was a straight forward threat that you play for XYZ as a junior or you get cut from the squad. Those parents chose to keep their lad at his local club, but moved him to another SL acadamy ..... and senior coaches at Wire are actively trying to persuade him to return. Maybe this is where Briers will fit in, as he does get out n about at local junior games.

I can only speak for the current U15s age group but your comments are not correct as the scouts were often at local games. The point being is that there are only three local sides at this age group (Latchford, Woolston, Crosfields) with no teams at Rylands, Burtonwood or Culcheth. Out of those three Latchford are far and away the most competitive (currently challenging at the top of the Premier) whilst the two other teams are in lower divisions and thus Latchford provide the bulk of players to the Academy (eight players).
There just isn't a big pool of playing talent in comparison to other areas. I have never seen any players being 'persuaded' to move clubs.
