| Im one of the drummers for the home games and would love to find out what other fans views on the drums being in the ground and whether were in the right place and doing the right thing.
All this season the hj has been graveyard of atmosphere. Is everyone quite happy with how it is now and to go to a game, just watch it and go home or does people want the place to be like the old wilderspool days. For me personally the main reason i became a life long fan as a kid was because of the electric atmosphere week in week out the wire fans created during every single game. And since then its gone dire. I think the best noise weve created this year so far was against catalan went players got sent off.
Last week we decided to move into the new corner to see if we could get the fans going again but apart from about 50 of us singing most of the way through, not many people really joined in.
Any views on how to make the atmosphere better (if thats what ppl want), one idea is to move closer to the away fans in the south stand so they can hear us clearer. I want to make our place a fortress like when we first moved in there. But lately even the smallest of away followers are louder then we are!

Nostalgia isn't as good as it used to be.
No offence to you personally, but I'll tell you what I have grown bored of - people coming on here every week moaning about the atmosphere. I enjoy watching RL, whether its on TV, in front of a handful of people at an amateur match, a kids match at halftime, a run of the mill SL match or the Challenge Cup Final. All will have very different atmospheres. As for Wilderspool - come on, we really need to stop flogging that dead horse. Yes it was good for the big games and/or for a good try or big incident. But most of the time it was dead. We've had some fantastic occasions already at the HJ too. So nothing has really changed.
Atmosphere will create itself, according to the quality / importance of the match and according to the interest level in the crowd. In fact, it would be much better if people stopped trying to falsely create it, either through stadium music, drums or daft songs.
There is clearly a growing feeling that league matches aren't as important as they used to be, coupled with the increased expectation at Warrington - i.e. winning a match used to be exciting, now it is expected. No amount of drumming or singing will change that.

| Atmosphere at HJ is rubbish since Geordie packed in leading the drummers with his big drum now its poor and disjointed .
Imo we need someone with bid drum few trumpets and it should all be organised by the club same as them daft dancers but hopefully they could do a better job .
Oh yes and all drum/trumpet players should get free admission and travel to home and away games lets face it they are a big part of the matchday experience unless your on of the Victor Meldrew types who don't like it and would prefer a church like atmosphere miserable gits imo

No, no, no! Dreadful ideas. Most people go to watch the match and if the occasion dictates, the atmosphere that goes with it. We do NOT go to listen to people "playing" trumpets and drums. People used to join in with Geordie's singing because that was how people felt back then. We'd won nowt for years, so any good performance was exciting, then we had the last season at Wilderspool, then first year at HJ, then our growing success. But now we've topped the league and since realised league games don't feel as important as they used to (although strangely they actually do mean more now since we now actually have chance of winning trophies).
Excitement about the occasion = good atmosphere
Drums and daft songs = noise that can add to a noisy atmosphere but can be extremely annoying at quieter games.

Talking of miserable gits, where have you been? Good to see you back now that we've got a pair of Bridges for you to moan about.

This. Does a month ever go by without another daft thread like this? It's not about singing and drums, it's about supporting your team. As for the idea of drummers etc getting in free, it wouldn't be too long before we'd have a bloody orchestra.

| They are only trying to help! But in a nutshell you will find a meaningful match played at good intensity, normally under the floodlights, will see the atmosphere take care of itself.

| I think the whole gameday experience has gone downhill - no more kill bill music beforehand, players not coming out to Muse Hysteria anymore with the lets get ready to rumble bit, no more cheeky music for the opposition to enter the fray to, no Sumo suits at half-time or half-time challenge....'when I were a lad we had all that' (in an old man voice) and I think those bits can help to generate more atmosphere. Plus get Lawrence Robinson back again 'Nessun Dormaaaaaaaaaa'

I moved out of the south stand to get away from it.
the drumming was ok a few years ago. Things have moved on now. Put your drums away and try to enjoy watching the game instead of making alot of noise with a musical instrument.

Any chance you could move down to the other (West End) corner?
As has been said, the atmosphere is generated on the pitch and dependant on the opposition/match importance/occasion. So often people refer to the Wilderspool atmosphere, the vast majority of the time I watched Wire at Wilderspool there were no drums! I think that in a way the drumming has killed the atmosphere as it seems there are no chants unless they are being driven by the drummers, and there is only so many dum de dum chants!
And incidentally, did it dawn on any of your '50' last Sunday that with 15 minutes to go people may have been going to the toilet rather than "Walk when we're winning"?

| The thing is, since we have had no real leader in the south stand since Geordie gave up, no-one is there to create the atmosphere but is also respected by everyone enough to join in, I like that you try and create an atmosphere, but even myself, I hate home games, I prefer away where people join inane back the team, just because we are away from home and need to make ourselves heard and intimidate the other team with our noise, no-one likes coming to the HJ because of facing our team, I'd we make it loud and even more intimidating, then it will become a fortress

I don't think you need a drum to have a good atmosphere. Plenty of noise was made at Langtree Park without, as with other games where they have been absent. There must have been a 1:3 drum:supporter ratio in Keighley, snare drums the lot. Completely over the top, banging lots of drums like it is the charge of the light brigade doesn't create an atmosphere, it just drowns it out. One I can understand, but there is no need for a marching band.
