I bought myself an adult ticket for the Wigan game and my son a student ticket. They told me I had to take proof to Wigan as well. You shouldnt have to do that because you have already bought one and showed proof at wire

Whats the big deal with showing proof?

My daughter carries her Uni ID and NUS card but certain members of staff in the shop are paranoid about student id. Acceptable student ID elsewhere isn't enough to get a student ticket if you haven't got a letter from Uni to say your course is full time.

To be honest, they say that every week. But having visited every SL ground and a fair few Championship grounds last year, I was asked just once at Wigan. What annoys me is how the shop act like the Gestapo over student tickets, yet are much more relaxed over other concession tickets.

I have just been into the club shop to purchase tickets & a man in front of me requested a student ticket, the young lady rightly asked him for his student ID, quess what? he had left it in his car, that's OK said the lady, Quess what? he had left it at home. So he was refused so bought an adult ticket. On leaving the shop I heard him say "effing bitch, it was worth a try" So well done Shop staff for weeding out the cheats. My daughter would easily pass for 15 but pays full price even though she works part time for mininum wage.

There is a difference between people trying to get the cheaper ticket (plenty of people pretend to be pensioners) and the honest people like myself who go in every week only to receive poor customer service.

I'm 35. I left University in 2000. If you didn't have to show proof at Wigan, what's to stop you passing the student ticket to me and letting me use it. Nothing. That's why you have checks.

That's really strange as I'm a student at University of Liverpool at the moment and I can say that I have not once been asked for proof of being a student, and I'm 21, it's not like people will look at me and immediately know I'm a student. You'd probably get away without bringing proof, but I suppose you should just to be safe.

I doubt they will ask anyway, but surely it isn't hard to take your ID to Wigan with you.

I agree Mr Optician that there is no excuse for poor customer service, but, I wonder what proportion of the gate were mature students, or youthful pensioners prior to the recent more vigourous checking procedures?

I don't mind paying the full price so that others can enjoy their concession, but, only if they qualify for the privilege. after all it is the only way that it is sustainable and I hope to enjoy it one day
