1946: Wakefield 13 Wigan 12

1996 - St Helens 40 Bradford 32
1998 - Sheffield 17 Wigan 8

Interesting to read that Robbie Paul got MOM when he played for the losing Bradford team in 1996. It's the only one I've ever heard of although the article says he was the 7th player from a losing team to receive it.
And can you imagine being at the Warrington replay final with the size of that crowd, 102,569, it must have been an amazing atmosphere!

As Robert Gate's book title says, there were a lot more than that. The gates were broken down and the estimate was that there were over 120,000 in the ground.

All the more amazing when you consider what the transport links were like at that time. No M62 and very few private cars.

My Father has told me stories of how he only got in the ground at half time. His coach parked miles away, main roads were gridlocked leading to the ground, I suppose the Halifax crowd may also traveled from the same direction which wouldn't have helped.
Odsal hasn't changed much since that famous game

| My dad worked at Crosfields and they organised a chara to the match. So many people were travelling that the road network, such as it was, clogged up and they never got to Bradfod. Had to knock on doors asking could they listen to it on the radio.
