| ....the most successful conversion of a back into a forward in the Superleague era? When you think that he came here as a relatively slow centre with no real passing game and has turned into an all round top class second rower I can't think of anyone who could claim to be a bigger success.

| For some reason (in a Warrington shirt) the name Gary Mercer springs to mind but I think he was late 80s (pre SL) and may even have been a winger to start with.

| Westwood is quality but i think it is fair to suggest that Gareth Ellis' stint in Australia has proven him to be a better back to forward convert.

| Kidwell did pretty well, leaving us as a centre and becoming a world cup & tri nations winning back row.
What I like about the Westwood situation is the fact that he has made it the real way you want a pack member to do it, toughen up as he plays during his career. I hate the focus on getting the younger lads as big as you can, as soon as you can. Just because they're are big units, doesn't mean they are tough enough! Obviously you get freaks (in a nice way) like the Burgess lads, who are big to start with.
Currie looks to be another one who will benefit from all round training, not just getting massive. He's a decent size anyway, but has a real turn of pace, which i fear he could lose if he became muscle bound.

To be fair neither played Super League as centre, and i'm pretty sure Menzies has always been a back-rower that was utilised as a centre.
On the Ellis subject - i'd say if Westwood was younger a few NRL teams would have come sniffing by now - he's exactly the type of back rower they like. Runs hard, defends harder. He's certainly a better forward than all the Burgess's bar Sam.

Ellis is a good shout. Imagine Wakey's back row if they had managed to keep them both.

| Pre Super League.
Harvey Howard, started as a winger and ended up as a prop.
Best one of all probably Brian McTigue, started as a centre and finished up as the best ball handing prop forward in the world.(and probably the hardest when it was a rough game)
