The lovely Dan Doherty was the headmaster, to be replaced by the miserable Mr Botham!

mr funnel was still the best teacher to have ever graced that school

i was there from 88 till 92 Mr funnel was my head of year great school.

My dad went around the same time as you. Would love to ask him if he has any memories, but he spent more time on Grey Mist than he did at school.

Why has it closed?

its turning into a special needs school but they have got planning permission in principle for the hillock lane playing fields to build a new one

I left in 1979, Andy Funnel was definately a class act when it came to teaching In those days spending time around Grey Mist was pretty much all there was to do except heading to Wilderspool for the game. Wonder what happened to the pockect battleship that was Mr Denning?

Why did it close? Was there a valid reason or was it just because of the standards not being met? Where are all the kids going to, has another school opened? A couple of weeks ago I was watching my lad play football on Woolston Park and there were huge gangs of Woolston High school kids having brawls with another school, presumably Birchwood or Newman? (Blue tie, two white diagonal lines across it). There must have been as many as 250 kids involved, most stood around finding it really exciting and filming on their mobiles, particularly girls.

Andy Funnel was a top bloke. The 2 drama teachers, Ian McCormack and Chris Eyres, made a cracking song up about him having a false leg and a glass eye and other removable body parts, just to wind up all the girls who fancied him!

mccormack was funny he threw a chair at my mate.
