Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to inform you of a charity event that I have organised for 2 great causes.

The event starts on Friday 25th November from 6pm in aid of the Paul Darbyshire Fund, and Rett Syndrome Research. There are 2 teams of 5 that will be rowing outside Tesco for 24 hours with no rest, sleep etc. I am on one team, along with 2 staff from the Warrington Wolves Scholarship and 2 representatives from Asics. Andy Stevenson is heading the other team and his team will include Mark Hilton & Gary Chambers & also Gareth O’Brien.

Andy Stevenson's daughter Beth suffers from Rett Syndrome. Rett Syndrome is a complex neuorological disorder that affects mainly girls, it leaves sufferers with multilple disabilities and reliant on others for all their needs. Rett Syndrome was reversed in the lab in 2007 so there is real hope for Beth and all the other girls who suffer with Rett. Andy is a founding trustee of RSRT UK, who are dedicated to raising money for treatments and a cure. In the first 12 months 98.2p from every pound raised has gone directly to research programmes.

We are also rowing for the Paul Darbyshire Fund. Paul, a former Warrington Wolves player & member of the coaching team, sadly lost his brave battle against Motor Neurone Disease in June of this year at the age of 41, having been diagnosed last September. The money raised will help Paul's wife & four children, as well as research into the disease.

Jon Clarke is involved through the Paul Darbyshire Fund, and Lee Briers is the newly appointed patron of the Rett Syndrome charity, so there will be a heavy Wolves involvement! They have both promised to come down and do some guest rowing for us on the Saturday, along with a couple of other players, holiday commitments permitting.

We have a Just Giving page set up www.justgiving.com/24hr-rowers, and are getting a text Justgiving code, as well as having a Facebook page called ‘Rowing for Darbs & Beth’. There will also be buckets next to our rowers for any shoppers to make donations!

We would really appreciate any help to raise money & awareness for these fantastic causes.

Thanks,
Becky
