| I was browsing on the other forums and stumbled across this topic, below is a quote from Leigh's official website.
"The loss to Sheffield has resulted in a serious cash flow issue which the Directors are attempting to resolve. There have been intensive talks internally and we have been in deep negotiation with the Rugby Football League, the Local Authority, LSVco, sponsors, the Corporate Club and LISA. We are assessing urgently what monies are available in the short and medium term to meet all liabilities. At the same time, we are looking forward to what is achievable next season. There is a way forward but this will require some very hard decisions to avoid the club going into liquidation. The current liabilities are not that great and with the assistance of a few we will be able to go forward into next season with a sound financial footing provided everyone rallies behind the club. The alternative is we cease to trade and no future for Leigh."
At the minute it seems Leigh are doing the best to save the club, however I would have thought that the rfl would help? There's quite alot of #leighsurvival going round on twitter.
For me personally, it's not nice to see any club go through this hard stage and I would love to see Leigh stick around and to hopefully have them back in super league sooner rather than later.
What are your opinions on it?

| A shame - makes you think that if the past had been different and we'd been relegated in SL VII, would we have been into liquidation or even exist to this day.
Instead - we're going into a Super League Semi-Final as favourites. How times change.

| When I went the Leigh Eagles game last week, there was a bit of talk about potentially a new owner but he wants to own the stadium outright too. LSV is owned by LSV Company as I understand so this would make it tough to get the Centurions and the ground as part of the deal. Hope whatever the outcome the team doesn't fold.
The talk was also not making the GF cost them approx £20-30K - If true, massive for Sheffield on the flip side.

| As above its correct... The overheads we have to pay to the LSV means we would only break even as a club with a crowd of 4000 so you can imagine how much investment is needed just to pay the rent and the wages...
Game against sheff was worth 30k for us which we blew, but it was just one game too far for them, the announcement of Millward leaving probably didn't do much for team morale either the week we played Fev.
Interesting fact though. Since getting relegated from SL, in 6 years we have NEVER won a play off game.

| Why would the RFL help a traditional heartlands team?

| All you twitterers get on the #leighsurvival bandwagon. Possibly get them some publicity.

Quite, move to Spain and the cash will start rolling in.
Really hope Leigh can survive this. Absolute tradgedy if we were to lose a founder member. Great club, ground and speccies.

| Warrington should buy them. Have them as an official feeder club.
Scrap the senior academy level, have each SL club paired up with a Championship team like they do with the reserve grade teams in Aus.
I just get the feeling all the effort is futile. With the possible exception of Halifax, there really is no top level future for any of the clubs in the Championship structure. Formally adopting them as feeder clubs would achieve a lot. It would stablise them financially (And attract bigger crowds as SL fans would go to watch their young guns in the Championship), it would increase the quality of the matches massively and give players a proper introduction into professional league.
The alternative is to pretend there is a future and for a select few to financially cripple themselves and work themselves into an early grave.

| I was thinking along similiar lines to saddened when I heard about this. I started off with how much of a benefit it has been to have Leigh as a development ground this year and what a shame it would be to lose that because of a cash flow problem, when we have 'forts' in the players lounge made out of £50 notes. The logical conclusion was something like what Saddened said.

| Not really realistic to partner with a Superleague team. Who would partner Barrow and Whitehaven with no SL team for miles around?

| The RFL aren't a huge fund like the IMF that can bail out clubs that get into financial trouble.
Questions need to be asked why did Leigh get themselves in this position? They needed to make the Grand Final to stay solvent? Is that a good business model?
If we were going into this game with the threat of liquidation if we didn't make Old Trafford then I'd be asking hard questions of our board and wouldn't be expecting the RFL to bail us out.
I know it's not the fault of the players and fans so it is a shame for them and I don't wish ill to Leigh but you can't expect the RFL to have the funds to bail them out. Clubs and boards need to realise they are responsible for themselves.

Maybe that's why Leigh aren't getting to Grand Finals, the pressure.
(p.s bit optimistic with the sig aren't you)
