Popped into the newly refurbished Lord Rodney (new name simply The Rodney) last night before the season launch dinner - WOW! What a difference! The place is simply unrecognisable, complete transformation. It's gone from dusty, dark, dingy and cramped to light, bright, airy and very modern. They've changed the shape of the bar and opened the place up so the back now connects directly with the front. There is even a small range of real ales. Certainly be giving it a try again on matchday. Ray Fisher is the new owner, so I'm sure he'll have things well organised.

Went in after the Widnes match. Looked very posh, thinking the chandeliers won't last the first home game against KR.

I've not been in yet, but some mates mentioned they went in shortly after the re-launch and that it was very good.

I'm sure that we'll be making a visit soon.

Ghastly pub, always has been, always will be. The thought of karoake should be enough to put anybody off going into a pub. Especially when middle-aged women are warbling at the top of their voice!!!

Ohhh nooo. Twas a top pub about 20 years ago, when the refurbed it circa 1990. Good pub run by the lazy Scouse landlord and ale kept by Big Vern and the guy from Leigh (you needed an interpreter to understand him tho'). Went rapidly down hill in the mid 90's, when they got a husband and wife (mid 30's) running it (into the ground).
Never used it again until we moved to the HJ (and I've only used it then, a handfull of times due to pooh ale, and their prices). I'll stick to The Tavern, ta, although if Ray Fisher's got owt to do with the Rodders, he'll make a success of it.

With regards to karaoke Live Wired, I'm with you there, brother.
Wannabees, p155heads and morons catered for. Yes ladies, we ALL know the words to I Will Survive, we just don't need your drunken rendition of it.
Can't believe we've had to put up with 20+ years of this "entertainment".
A pub with a jukebox (at a reasonable volume - I'm showing my age) with a selection to suit all tastes, is all you need, not a "look at me, I'm singing" machine.
