| it shows things intresting,
for example. we moan about refs, and for example, we would of prefered ganson for wembley (when the ref was announced, we all said we'd prefer ganson for the big match for control) but he has been the harshest ref in superleague, but yet ehen we have alibert he has only handed out 6 yellows in his superleague career. and yet we all complain that he is crap.
Seemss that we prefer stop start too free flowing games.

| Bit of a difference between 56 SL games, and 248 don't you think? Of course Ganson would have handed out more dismissals.

I bet you passed your English GCSE.
Your argument seems to be that the best referee is the one that misses the most infringments. I think the reason most like Ganson is that he is the most consistant, makes it clear why he made the decisions he has, and is not afraid to admit when he makes a mistake. Big difference between that and somebody running around aimlessly, with a whistle in his mouth, not watching the game, or having any idea how the play is developing, so he invariably ends up getting in the way. Often making decisions that are so incomprehensible that fans laugh rather than getting anoyed. I have said before that I think they have an incredibly difficult job, and full respect to them. I for one do not jump down their throughts at every wrong decission they make. I just don't think you should do a difficult and important job if you are crap at it.

| I think the standard has been quite good this year. This may be because we have been winning though.

| Probably very difficult and time consuming to do but... It would be interesting to see a breakdown of the referee's stats against each team.
For example James Child has dished out 12 yellow cards in 35 games but to which team? Has any one team been sinbinned by Childs significantly more than others. I.e. of his 12 yellow cards, have Hull had 6 against them?
It's just a thought, perhaps someone with more time on their hands and a reliable source of information can supply the answers for just Warrington??

Agreed. I dont care whether a ref is good or bad (although obviously good is always better) as long as they are consistent. The number of yellow/red cards etc is useless. Two refs issue the same number of cards, one may miss loads whilst another may simply "let the game flow and penalise the worst offences"
Ask any set of fans to pick their best and worst refs and the lists will be very similiar. THAT is the best mark of who the top refs are.

| Not sure why everyone is being so dismissive of these stats. For me they are quite telling.
I am of the opinion that Ganson is the best ref, and he gives more cards on average.
What this suggests to me is that Ganson is far less tollerant of players messing around at the play the ball. Reasonably early warning, and he's not afraid to dish out the card.
Silverwood, who only averages a card every 4 games was poor in the home game against Wigan. The reason he was poor is he allowed Wigan too much time to mess about at the play the ball. During that game a card should have been dished out.
Fair play for Wigan for playing the ref well on that occasion.
Our Union cousins borrowed the sin bin, and are now far better at using it in my opinion. Obviously there are far more penalties in Union, but teams are punished in Union for killing the ball. I don't know the stats, but it is more than 1 card per game in Union.
I'm saying that League needs that, because it doesn't. But when teams keep lying on at the play the ball, they should be punished far quicker than most refs allow. Also, all 'professional' fouls should alos be an automatic card. As in any holding down, after the attacking team has made a clean break, and is in a position to play the ball quickly. I'm not just talking about 50 yard breaks.
