| For anyone watching Super League Super Men last night I thought Scully made an interesting point about the rules of RL.
Carney asked him what one thing he would change if he was in charge for a day and his answer was that we (England, Aus, NZ etc) would play to the same rules. It's something that's come up quite a bit since the World CLub Challenge.
On the other side there has been a lot of complaint about the overseas rule in the CC. Any team from Super League has a higher overseas quota than those of the lowers divisions. This effectively means that we're playing in the same competition under slightly different rules. I find this a little unfair and think that if lower divisions have a lower quota then SL teams should have to stick to that quota. I know it's never going to happen though, imagine telling a majority of the Aussies that they can't play in the CC final.
I know we are ruled by the RFL and other organisations govern RL abroad but does anyone think we, as a sport, would benefit from a FIFA-type organisation, that co-ordinates and governs RL as a whole? I know next-to-nothing about football so consequently don't know much about FIFA but it occurs to me that maybe something along those lines might make the international competition seem a bit 'fairer'.
What does everyone think?

| The whole differant country and rules thing is stupid. You dont get this in football or Union. There should be one set of rules.

| who's rules will they settle with though? the aussies definately won't settle for ours, and look at the way they rule our so called 'international' rules we have now, its a sad state of affairs when a sport is dominated by one country and the way in which they say jump everyone else says how high

| Do we play under different 'rules' or is it simply how those rules, or Laws. are interpreted by the officials?
It isn't just different countries that play under different rules, tonight we will be playing under different rules to the game going on in Wrexham.

How's that then?
Alibert isn't going to referee Crusaders v Catalans under French interpretations because; 1) he works for the RFL and is refereeing in Super League, 2) he's not refereeing in the Elite One Championship under the Fédération Française de Rugby à XIII and 3) if he does, this will show bias towards the Dragons.
Unless you were being sarcastic and saying that Silverwood doesn't know the rules, in which case, good work.

Maybe rules is the wrong word, conditions may have been a better description, but Silverwood isn't going to have the ability to pass a decision onto an official with a TV monitor in front of him. Alibert is not going to have the 'benefit' of two in goal judges, though he is going to be able to ask for help from the official if he feels he may have missed something.

| The same thing does happen in Football too. Compare the Italian League to the Premiership, its chalk and cheese. There is already discussion on how the World Cup is going to be refereed affecting England's chances. I think in RL it is amplified slightly because of there only being 2 top tier leagues.
The thing that gets me is all the 'interpretation' nonsense. There are very clear mandates that referees adhere to at the beginning of each season. The obvious one this year is allowing the defender to hold the man down. A few years ago, players weren't to be seen 'not making an effort to get off a player' or they would be penalised. Now they can hold them down for 4-5 secs if they want. There is a middle ground that we dont seem capable of finding at the moment. I hate the dominant tackle rule too, its just adding shades of grey to an already confused area.

I wouldn't worry about him working out the penalty count, he'll have David "I hate Warrington as I'm from Widnes" Campbell helping him on that score.
I agree though, all games need to have video technology otherwise it's not an even field. It's just the cost involved.
