| It is obvious from today's team announcement for Sunday that Kevin Penny is not even the third selection for winger in the current squad.
Therefore would now not be a good time to pass him on to another club ?
Got nothing against the lad, he scored 2 good tries for the Academy last week, but even he must be starting to wonder what he has got to do to break into the first team.
Kevin has got alot of potential but it is not going to be achieved at Warrington.

| Listening to T smith a couple of weeks ago, i got the feeling that he doesn't think Penny will ever make it at SL level.

Why not just let him go then? no point holding him back Widnes would have him back in a heart beat and am sure a few SL clubs would take a look as his try scoring record in SL speaks for its self 38 appearances 26 tries.

| Bit early in the season to be thinking of discarding him surely??....Yes, he may be down the pecking order at the moment, but the way that injuries can soon strike a side, then it can only make sense to have the likes of Penny in the background??
If he does get a chance then that will be his opportunity to show his credentials, and perhaps rediscover that top class form that he exhibited not so long ago....At the moment, he simply doesn't make the side on merit and that is something he has to live with and hopefully work on positively.

| I predict that he'll get his chance mid-season. I wouldn't like to call whether he takes his chance or not, but I hope he does.

| Penny will play when the ground gets firm to cover injury or for when players get rested.

| Penny wont leave warrington until his contract ends. Cullen gave him such a good deal that no other club worth their salt would now dream of matching it.
Same with Jon Clarke.

.... when he was the hottest property in Superleague and other clubs were circling. Had he been allowed to leave at that point, there would have been meltdown amongst supporters such was the astonishing start he made to his career which culminated with a call into the GB train on squad.

| i think if he sat down and studied the rule book he may have a better understanding of the game
don't forget he came into the sport very late and i just don't think he knows what he is doing

| Thing that disappoints me a bit is that putting his ability to one side for a second, as we've all got differing opinions on them, I think he's easily SL standard others don't, okay. What we'd all probably agree on is that he has so much enthusiasm for the game, he's so desperate to play & do well that sort of, I'd just like to see him do just that now - if that's for us, Widnes, Harlequins, Crusaders, Leigh, well, I couldn't really give a monkeys anymore.
Maybe we've hit the point whereby Kev & Warrington aren't the perfect fit anymore, but he would be for somebody and I'd like to see him express himself. You look at say Crusaders, them Welsh fans won't have seen anyone like him, he'd get a few Welsh bums onto & then off their seats.

| Penny suffers from a combination of the position he plays in and also the fantastic start he had to his career.
The problem with being a winger is that, for the most part, if you aren't scoring tries and scaring defences everytime you have the ball, then it can appear you are a pretty average player, because to the average spectator that is what being a winger is all about.... Unfortunately for Penny, at the start of his career he did the crowd pleasing stuff very, very well and people expected that EVERY time he played.
Remember back to Paul Sculthorpe & Iestyn Harris in their early days at Wire??... I would say that both were steady rather than sensational and yet fans appreciated them and they developed into fine players. I'd offer the opinion that Chris Riley has been going down the Scully/Harris route. He certainly doesn't offer the Penny-like excitement in the crowd when he receives the ball and yet for most people, he is a valued member of the side nowadays.
Hopefully, Kevin Penny is appreciating this chance to learn his game under Smith & co, and when he does get a chance let's hope he can show his worth to the team and also that the crowd can not be too overly expectant of him.
