| I was thinking today, last time we were gathered on Bank Park, we were chanting "There's Only One Peter Deakin".

| Was only talking about him being the catalyst to all this. We also said that Paul Cullen also contributed to this.
.....now waiting for a barage of abuse!

| Sometimes people with charisma and great communication skills build up a messianic image around themselves which counts for more than they have actually contributed. Deakin and Cullen both fit that bill.

What a nasty and unnecessary post, not to mention untrue. Shame on you.

| The reason people get sensitive about Deakin being criticised is because of his sad illness and death which happened not long after he left. He was a very committed and enthusiastic man but I'm not sure he was the saviour of the club and the driving force behind everything that has since developed, that he is made out to be.
We had big financial black holes when Deakin was Chief Executive, we were losing money at an alarming rate. I'm sure there were also some contracts struck with suppliers during those days as well which tied the club into bad deals for a few years after.
Andy Gatcliffe came in and stopped us leaking money else we would have been going bust. Deakin's enthusiasm helped in the early stages of the stadium process but most of the real hard work and the battle to get past the inquiry was done after he had left. He was also after merging us with Sale RU and bringing them into our new stadium.
I liked him when he was here and was sad when he left, he did have a vision and was very positive about the club's potential but looking back with hindsight the record was more mixed, Deakin had us teetering in a very precarious position which Gatcliffe steadied and put us in a place to go forwards. He brought in some exciting dreams, Langer and Nikau, and said the things the fans wanted to hear, and this coupled with his untimely death make it a nice story that back ten years ago Peter Deakin laid the foundations of the club being in the state it is today, but I don't think it was all rosey with Deakin.

please get your facts right, the only person responsible for sorting warringtons previous financial problems was simon moran,it was his money from his pockets.these problems stretched back well before peter deakin was involved with warrington rlfc.

There are a lot more people involved than just Deakin, Gatcliffe and Moran who helped save this club. Many of them will never get recognition.
