i have heard many things about the academy this year and how well they are getting on ive heard that this could be the best young side for years and could win something again and could challenge right to the end! what are peoples opinions on this who know the academy well and follow them on a regualr basis.

also ive been hearing things about the talent coming through the ranks and maybe seeing them break into the first team like rhys evans and bobby goulding.ryhs ive heard is capabale of great things and is a fantatstic attacker and i heard he could be challenging for a reserve spot already and hes only just finished school i belive, that is a rgeat achivevement. its a credit to have young players at the club.

also this fantastic talent crowley ive heard hes been compared to being the next sam burgess is this really true? have we really got a talented foward in the ranks coming through and possibly challneging for honours at the highest level. this would be fantasitc ive heard hes also the top try scorer that is a fantatstic acheivment for a foward to be scoring that many. this lad sounds like a true gem i hope we dont lose him and he progresses fully.

so what is the deal with the academy and are these things im hearing true and any other players i should be watching out for in the future.

Yes, the things you are hearing are true. Alot of hard work has been going into junior development for many years now, by the Reserves and Academy coaches plus Scholarships and Service Area, supported by the likes of Squadbuilder and the Vice Presidents Association.

We now have people like John Bastian, Ben Lazenby, Richard Marshall and Gary Chambers (apols to those I've missed) leading the way and doing an excellent job.

The future does look brighter than it's ever done in terms of a genuine production line of young (and a good number of local) talent rather than just the odd one or two.

Why not go and watch for yourselves and make your own judgements, I havent watched that much of the academy, tend to follow the reserves as I have said previously. But one thing is for sure, we have had numerous lads who have been outstanding at 16 / 17 but for one reason or another havent made up to the top end of the reserves. Either life choices or others catching up in development, a good few of those have played at the highest level England, etc.
I think peaople can talk them up to much so that they can get complacent, or they can crumble under the pressure. I know this without naming names a few of the lads have been mates.

Just on Crowley i heard he is still only 17, is that correct ? if so then he won't be ready for a few years yet.

I watched a few of the academy games last year, watched one were crowley played along side adam neil.
Imo Even though neil is about 2 years older ( i think ), crowley looked similar in build and played as good if not better...
Look at the scrum half o'brien, He looks small and very young, yet fitted well into the reserves side earlier this season... Even named mom in one game....

But in saying that Dont agree with rushing players through to quickly, Cant do them any good
risking injury etc at such a young age.
If they are our stars of the future, they should be allowed to develop and progress at a rate that suits them...... not the reserves bench.
