Personally i don`t think it will be fair to judge Tony Smith until he has been in the job for at least 3 years, thats the minimum amount of time that i expect him to need to shape his own squad.

He will have spotted already that certain players are not upto the job in taking us forward but their contracts may have more than a year to run so his hands will be tied slighlty, i like his stance so far that no one player is bigger than the club as thats a similar policy that Alex Ferguson has used with great success at United, its basically perform or we will replace you with someone that will perform on a consistent basis.

From what you hear some players in the past got away with certain things that they wouldn`t have got away with with a stronger minded coach in charge, i was expecting a lot more from Paul Cullen in that area especially from the attitude he showed during his playing days, i thought he wouldn`t stand for any messing about and players pulling the wool over his eyes but apparently this wasn`t the case judged by the things you hear. It was a poor combination of coach and board in the past as i don`t think either Paul Cullen or our board were mentally tough enough to carry out some of the tough decisions that needed to be made, things just got left and were allowed to fester on and on.

Tony Smith to me has already made it clear who is in charge at this club, in any successful business it has to be clear who is in charge and who sets the rules.

As everyone has seen during his interviews Tony Smith brings with him a professional attitude and their is a certain aura about him where it comes across that he won`t accept under performers and people with a poor work ethics, he will need a lot of time to shape this club as lets face its been poorly run club from top to bottom for too long.

Its all well and good winning community awards but when its come to the business end and playing side of things we have fallen well short like with contracts being given out far too easily that were not warrented and other business issues that could see us out of pocket by quite a few quid, i expect a lot more of these Salford type results over the years until Tony Smith can build his own team along with his own long term backroom staff and put into place some policies that have to be followed by all and to build a winning culture which takes time.

Our new coach is basically picking up the mess left behind by others, their is no doubt about it that he has been left with a poor squad thats not upto winning a thing, even with a favourable challenge cup draw thats starting to favour an underdog making wembley this season i still don`t believe our lot will be leaving their sofas on cup final day.

totally agree.....about time we had a coach that will stick some discipline on this lot...im not expecting owt this season but the seeds of recovery have been put in place already with gleeson and reardon going...expect a few more in the next year

Results like monday are going to be the norm for a fair while, it doesn`t bother me to be honest because i know in the back of my mind that we have brought someone in now that is willing to give the rug a good shake and rid the club of all the dodgy cr@p thats built up in it over the years, the only concern i still have is how much of a free reign will this board give Tony Smith without interfering too much and just letting the coach get on with things.

I think the last 10 days should tell you not to worry about that Rob.

Our board have always come across as the interfering type though down the years through various eras, this isn`t a go at Simon Moran but didn`t Cullen have a dig at the club on Boots N All where he basically said that he pointed things out to the club and they wouldn`t listen ?

total control over who stays,who go's and who he would like to sign as jwp stated this has already been shown to be the case.
