Why would you rather have a left centre in Michael Shenton replacing Martin Gleeson over a right centre in Jamie Lyon which would be swapping like for like ?

Alright smart , so I didnt realise he was a left centre.

In addition why would you want an average youngster who has potential rather than a world class Aussie centre in his prime with a great scoring rate, assist rate and kicks goals?

I firmly believe Lyons going to Saints so i'd love to have Shenton! In fact he'd be my first choice of any SL centre.

I'd like to understand your idea of a promising youngster if you think Shenton is average?

I wasn`t trying to be smart fella, i was just pointing out that that Shenton would be no use in replacing a right centre in Martin Gleeson.

Michael Shenton replacing Matt King, now thats a different ball game altogether which would firstly strengthen our attacking threat and also it would free up a lot of our salary cap.

Shenton is average compared to Lyon. They are the 2 players that were being compared. To suggest signing Shenton over Lyon is ludicrous no matter how much potential he has.

Great shout, thats what i suggested not so long ago where we could test the water with his agent to find out if he has truely settled in France. If he hasn`t then he would be a great replacement for Martin Gleeson and a massive crowd draw as well.

Is that right Rob? I was also under the impression that Shenton was a right centre. He certainly has the number 3 shirt, and he made King look silly last year when playing at right centre against us.

He can play both.

He started out as a right centre Dave, everything i have seen of him in recent times has been at left centre and thats where he seems to be doing great things, he wears 3 at left centre. The clip is from Feb this year.

Shenton is the left centre for us, he's been absolutely unbelievable so far. Last season he was a revelation for us and as certainly picked up from where he left off last year. Im not being biased but i don't think theres a SL centre i would want over him, of course i wouldn't mind Gidley

but Evans as impressed me considerably.

Lyon came through very early whereas Shenton's a pretty late one to the table, possibly due to a lack of natural size?
I'd rather have british than Aus anyway and Shenton's up there

And I'd rather have the better player because that would make my team better and more likely to win.

Really? I thought I read he was at least 24.. and I only remember him coming into the side about 2006ish before hitting good form in the NL in 07.

totally different comparison because Lockyer is much older and only has a season or 2 at best in him. Now if you were to say Pryce now compared to Lockyer 2 or 3 years ago (so that he is a similar age to Lyon now) then it would be Lockyer no contest.

A quick question, when was the last time you seen Jamie Lyon show the same sort of form for Manly that he did whilst at St Helens ? He certainly hasn`t shown anywhere near his Saints form at Manly, yes its a tougher competion in the NRL and yes Lyon has played at 6 a lot but the times ive seen him at right centre for Manly he has looked average compared to his old saints form. He still looks a porker these days, he didn`t half put on weight in that last year at Saints.

Why is it? Your previous comment was "I want the better player to help my team win" so surely you'd want Darren Lockyer..being the better player and all.

I'll be honest here, I dont follow that league so I dont know. I'd imagine playing him at 6 sometimes and othertimes at centre doesnt help. Their league is also much tougher so harder to shine perhaps?

The fact is though, if Lyon came over here again he would still be a worldbeater. That is something Shenton is not. He also has a number of years left to play.....if Lyon was 30 or 31 then fair enough but a 27 year old Lyon or a 24 year old Shenton really is a no brainer.
