I know stats don't tell the full story but they're one of the few things that we have to measure things on, we're always getting told by our own fans and fans of other clubs that Penny is this, Penny is that..we know alot of other fans do it due to his superstar status he recieved after a good finish to the 2007 season, but how does he compare to some of the "elite wingers" in these areas he's supposed to struggle in. Who alot of people classed has having a really good season last year. I rate Fox and think he has the size and skill to reach the top, my post is more aimed at why Penny recieves so much sh*t. I think the problem may be that penny doesn't make any more errors than any one else but the ones he does make tend to be real howlers and more often than not have come at a crucial time in a game and you have then gone on to lose, these mistakes then stick in the mind more.

Also, the reason away fans don't like him is he seems to have a real arrogance about him particularly when scoring tries, this is not necessarily a bad thing if channelled correctly, but waving to the fans one minute while scoring and then coughing up the ball to cost a try at the other end often amuses us away fans. I'll never forget the "one kevin penny" chants at stains last year, that was a classic example.

He only tends to do it to his own fans as far as I can remember? I remember him coughing one up at Saints but they're aren't many occasions, I bet Francis Meli couhgs up more that lead to direct points.

Following Smith's comments about Riley, I'm comfortable with the fact that, when he's ready and merits inclusion, Penny will get his chance again. It's up to him to take it and I'm hopeful he will.

all wingers drop the odd high ball or get bundled into touch,look at offiah he was hopeless in defence and couldn't tackle a big dinner.i think penny has improved his tackling and is less prone to darting out of the line when he shouldn't.
a winger needs protection but when his inside centre or second row leave the line too quickly he is vulnerable,tries get run in on his wing and people say we are weak down that side.
ade gardner had plenty of the same faults as penny when he started getting games at saints but he always had a solid centre inside of him,saints persevered and coached him well and he went on to play internationals.
i cannot see any reason why the same should not apply to penny,who have we got out there currently that could go the length of the field if given the chance to do so.

Not really, they are only just ahead of Webb and McGuire.

Plus they make more happen when they don't make the errors

Neither King or Penny are the problem on the left wing.....

BUT Penny is still a shoddy tackler one on one

A lot of our players seem to be cowering away from tackles this season. I'm not sure Penny has enough confidence going in for a hit, either attacking or defending.

I think he just needs to get a few good hits in and his confidence will gain dividends.

He was having a bit of a stinker against Leeds in the reserves, dropping a lot of ball, but one good hit on the Leeds centre and his game improved.

when i 1st started playing rugby i was terrified of getting hit and i was low on confidence.



A few concussions and windings down the line and i didn't give a s---.
I enjoyed it and was never worried about it.




He's a young lad maybe that's all he needs is a few good hits, realise he'll not die from it and improve from there.

How many SL games has he had in total, he surely must have had a few by now.

I don't think he collected one high ball before the hit on the Leeds centre, a few missed tackles aswell.

Just ask yoru self this oen question. In the opening game v Saints who looked more comfortable being on the wing in SL.

KP would do well to watch a few videos of Martin Offiah in his hey day and learn how to attack

That is because young local players are not treated like disenfranchised second class citizens at Saints. They are trained, prepared and integrated so that the step up is easier.

I believe this is changing at Warrington but were are certainly not there yet. Something Tony Smith will have on his 'to do' list.

ask yourself this did we once target a young boy in his debut game and the first game of the season.........he looked as nervous as a $hitting kitten at the begining of the match... he should have been peppered with bombs grubbers chip kicks the works.......but oh not us, that kind of intelligence is way beyond us......

thats what sickened me most about that game....
