| Not Tony, although good answer, he must have switched allegiances around then.
A bit of a clue, he arrived at the same time as Bateman and Ellis.

Yes! Well in 'MPN'. His debut was stunning, the saints forwards couldn't pin him down and he made it look easy. He bounced back many saints forwards including Ward (fantastic big prop). He was a tough old South Wales fella, 6 foot 1 and nearly 18 stone. He didn't need any coaching, just give him the ball. Out of all the Wire forwards I've seen over the years, I've never seen anyone have so much natural power and ease with which he could gain yards through the opposing pack. Well in MPN.

This one’s a bit of a conundrum.
It’s listed in the Warrington results archive as the Stains,
It’s not one I remember though

Do you remember the other Welsh RU trialist who was stretchered off with what I think was a broken leg? That was a very short RL career, only slightly longer than Dallas Meade's.

| He was a winger and Welsh RU International. He was never selected for his country again after the trial at Wilderspool.

If he was Welsh I would guess at Jones, Jenkins, Davies, or Williams.

| Quote ="Saxy"Well done Silver2 for getting the correct season - Bevan had already played his first trial match on 17th November 1945 but had to return to Australia for demob and didn't come back till the next season...so this is the immediate post-war "transitional" team which didn't yet feature many of the stalwarts of the later 40's who were still awaiting demob themselves....The ball carrier hasn't been guessed yet, so I'll end the misery and name Billy Belshaw.... here's the pic with the teamsheet: date was 9th March 1946 at Wilderspool against Wigan, and was a right trouncing, 0-38....another reason why quite a few names here didn't last all that much longer as better players became available:
IN OUT
BTW, George Taylor also features in my avatar....
Does anyone know what colours the kit here was?
Nice job everyone!'"
Any photo of the 1948/49 team which was the first time I saw Warrington play in Hull? As stated above better players came in and I only remember 3 players from the 1946 photo that were in the 48/49 side -Helme,Ryan and Featherstone. Others I recall include Bath, Francis, Bevan,Pimblett,Fishwick and Prescott.
Note you are located in Jo'Burg. I lived in South Africa from 1966-1968 and spent a few months in Modderfontein before moving to Sasolburg.

Roy and Steve Pickersgill is correct.
Sadly Roy is no longer with us, passed away a few years ago.
MPN - it wasn’t any of those.
BWW - I don’t know about those, but not who I have in mind.
The nephew is on Wires71 original picture.

That’s correct for the nephew
The uncle came to us from the 81/82 Leigh first division winning team.
