| Myler tries/assists per game ratio- 1.38
Tomkins tries/assists per game ratio- 1.15
Myler has missed more tackles and made more errors, but Tomkins has give away 13 more penalties. Both stats can be damaging to a team.

| I'm pretty sure Smith has not based his decision on the selection of the team on a comparison with Sam Tomkins who plays for Wigan - a team completely irrelevant to the final.
It's more likely that Smith will compare the merits of Myler to Clarke, Higham, Monaghan and Briers before making his decision.

Smith has dropped Myler because his stats are not as good as Tomkins.

you can use stats all you like..... as a player tomkins is way ahead of myler at present.
myler has vulnerabilities in his game that tomkins doesnt.

Just proving to the Wigan fan that stats means jack. He wanted a cheap way of having a dig at Myler an a chance to bum Tomkins up, I was just showing him that stats can be favourable to Myler as well.

Tomkins has been playing at fullback for a while so i'd expect his assist stats to drop below that of a scrum half, also when he played at half back he was an individual type half back like Eastmond that didn't do assists that often.
Myler should have more asissits as he rarely looks to take the line on, he'd rather pass it then look for a possible opening.

I wasn't having a cheap dig at Myler, just explaining the reasons why Smith may not select him.
Last year when Myler was at Salford, Shaun Wane in his pre match address to the spectators in the South Stand bar (prior to the Wigan v Salford Cup game) openly stated that Wigan would target Mylers weakness in defence and they did. So much that McRae moved Myler to the wing position at times in the game to allow other players to defend in Mylers position.

But Myler's defence this year has been brilliant, much improved, forty more tackles this year in a team that has been at the top all year than a poor Salford team last year.

| The coach has to do whats best for the team,in any sport. If that includes leaving out a one of star players then so be it. Its not end of world for Myler am sure his time will come.

If it's true, for a guy who's only 20 you would expect his time will come again, possibly in the grand final?

| Heartbreaking for Richie if its true. This could destroy his entire season. He's dreamt of playing at Wembley since he was 4. If he gets robbed of that chance, he might not recover. Plus I doubt he'll get picked for England for the Four Nations. If his club coach doesn't have the confidence that he can take on Leeds, how can McNamara have confidence in him to take on Australia and New Zealand. We'll be losing the advantage of Monas at 9, and picking Higham, who never does much anyway. Come on Tony, please play Richie! If you people are telling the truth, give us your source.

| Sorry but can't trawl through all 8 pages of this.
If true I will be suprised as Smith has picked Myler whenever he has been fit. If Leeds were to target Myler that leaves gaps for others and Leed have also lost a few of their front line forwrads.
Any thought of moving Monas away from Hooker would be nuts. It is no fluke that since he moved to his best position we have been a diffrernt team.
For me the one to miss out is Higham.

I'd have Coops and Higham out, but unfortunately I think that too many people know about this for it to be made up. Unless its a TS ploy, I think its true.
My side:
1. Richie Mathers
2. Chris Riley
3. Matt King
23. Ryan Atkins
5. Chris Hicks
6. Lee Briers
7. Richie Myler
8. Adrian Morley (C)
9. Michael Monaghan
10. Garreth Carvell
11. Louis Anderson
12. Ben Westwood
13. Ben Harrison
15. Jon Clarke
16. Paul Wood
26. David Solomona
27. Vinnie Anderson
Hopefully Richie's smile isn't just him putting on a brave face.

As you both say his time will come - ask Danny McGuire - he was dropped for the 2003 Challenge Cup final after scoring the leveling (at 80mins) and winning (in extra time) tries in the semi. He hit back in 2004 by scoring 38 tries including one particularly significant one at Old Trafford!
Anyone else think this could be mind games from Smith - as a Leeds fan I'm suspicious. (I hope it is true because I think Monaghan is your most effective 9)

| I agree he may not make the starting 13 but I can't see Myler not making the 17.. As we're rightly saying, right place, right time in support - with pace and has scored a good number of tries.
People are saying this is a TS ploy and mind-games prior to the game but wouldn't that put even more pressure on Richie if/when he gets on the field! That's not TS style as he'd understand the pressure.
I hope for Richie's sake and Warrington the lad gets on the field at some point. I don't this he deserves to be dropped entirely and is a great addition to the team!
COME ON WIRE!!!
