Quote: AppleyBridgeWire "Where in my post did I try to make out Powell was a good appointment?

People are already laying into Sam because he’s inexperienced. My point was that experience guarantees nothing.

And if you’re suggesting we should only appoint a coach with a fuller trophy cabinet - I can’t see any of them beating a path to our door.'"

What I'm saying is we should at least look like we know what the hell we're doing. Your point was moot and would only have held water if you were talking about an experienced coach who had won something before coming to us and then got us trounced week after week while here. Powell came with no success and left with even less. So do you think the absolute best we could do was someone with zero coaching experience riding on the success of his playing days? If thats the best we could do then we might aswell fold the club now. That nobody else would touch us with a barge pole.

So basically you can’t come up with anyone else barring Wane who probably very likely turned us down. Nice argument.

There is a suggestion both Long and Gleeson coming, that’s some money on coaching if any truth in that.

if you read the Middleton press release- SB impressed with his plans. By his own admission he wants to go back to Aus as a head coach. If we’re a stepping stone to that it must be a win win situation.

Let me ask you - if not this then who?

So basically you wanna support a ludicrous hiring, like you probably supported Powell when he was given the job, and bury your head in the sand for the next 2 years until it turns out that shock horror, Burgess at best gets us into the play offs each year but nothing more. Something that I frankly have had my fill of. Just as with Powell, its GF or nothing. Non of this 'lets see how he does in year 3' no thanks. We've squandered absolutely expected success for the last 10 years. Burgess will be more of the same.

It's all about opinions though and you may be proven right but those supporting the appointment for whatever reason have just as much right to their opinion and hopes that it won't be as bad as you think

Yeah, remind me what Middletons press release was when we hired Powell and how true to his praise he turned out to be? I'm not paid to hire this clubs manager. I give my opinion on the decisions they make, not the ones they didn't because that's an unquantifiable waste of time. They hired Sam Burgess. A person with Zero success as a coach, this is also something that Middleton and co know, and decided to press on past. And so i hear you say, well there must be good reason. But must thwre? Because same people gave the reigns to Powell and are now putting him to the sword. That's what I shall base my opinion on.

Wayne Bennett had zero success as a coach once. You’ve come out with a lot of negatives. Again I ask you for one positive - if not Sam then who?

People took issue with my OP. They argued with me and now we're here. People aren't allowed to have negative opinions here is the crux of the matter. Its only when the majority take their head out of the sand are the critical posters allowed to have their say.

Is there any coach currently in SL with any GF success to their name? Smith is the only one I think. Bar a few there’s also very little first team coaching experience amongst the current SL headcoaches.

To put it politely, you don't sound like a supporter, you sound like someone almost hoping for failure, simply so you can come on here and say you told us so.

You provide zero alternatives, you just provide obvious negatives.

To be honest, for your own mental health, you're probably better advised to find another team or sport to follow, because your constant negativity won't be doing you any good in the long run.

How is pulling a name out of my backside (much like Middleton and co. Have done here), that will forever remain an unfulfilled notion, a positive? I refuse to. Again, its not my job. I'm not paid to come up with any kind of solution. I give my opinion as a fan on what the club ACTUALLY do. The problem here is the confidence in the club to get anything correct has been eroded away for a decade. They have consistently got it wrong every step of the way, so why on earth the confidence from anyone now? Its just blind faith and I don't subscribe to that.

Where's the reason to believe? What have the club done in the past 10 years, that has given you this faith in the club, board, players, coach, to succeed? To get it right? You can't argue with me that there is any. You were still defending Powell 5 games ago, despite your efforts to deny it. So you're clearly going to be content with whatever drivel comes our way. My mood is neither here nor there just as those believers are also in reality not actually sitting in the clouds. All i see it as is, you guys are still at the point of expecting we might get it right this time, and I'm past it. And will watch on as such until proven wrong.
