| Quote: fez1 "I agree.
Nothing against him personally but he is light on coaching experience.
And with Long or Gleeson.....
Burgess allegedly -
drug taker, gambler, misogynist
Long and Glesson - well they go back a long way. TS got rid of Glesson due to (iirc) his bad influence. Long has not exactly got a blemish free record (St. Helens market and all that).
This is a big gamble.
The only positive is that Chambers will become director of rugby - hopefully this will take workload off Burgess and put KP one step away from the rugby side of things.
I like Marshall but dont know enough of his influence on things.
I'd like them to have appointed a full time psychologist - so much at the club needs that treatment!
Having said all that - good luck Sam and Gary.'"
Gleesons last role was with the England RU team, you don't get roles like that by accident, he'd be a good choice. I'd like to see Sean Long though.
I'll get behind this appointment, it's bold if they have some good ideas and get the squad on board it could
just ne the fresh approach we have needed

As Director of Rugby I think that Chambers has the much harder job to be honest, the rugby side of the club seems to be generally pretty shambolic.
Welcome to the Wire Sam, here's hoping you give us an exciting team to watch.
Here's a question for the fans not giving Burgess a chance....what would you have said if we had appointed Adrian Lam 12 months ago? Just shows that you never know eh?'"
Lets not pretend Adrian Lam has them playing this good. They'd be as bullish and successful without him there. They had a massive point to prove and weren't gonna let it slip this time after being snubbed or robbed so many times in the Championship. Under Lam we'd have been just as bad because nobody can fix this mess but a minute few.

Maybe that's what is behind this appointment; introducing a new audience to RL by creating a new reality TV show, 'At the HJ with the KarKrashians'. Watch as big Sam gets to follow-on from his role on SAS Australia, by assuming the role of head coach at a UK RL club.

| To the nay-sayers - DP came here with loads of coaching experience and no NRL “baggage” that I’m aware of. And look where that got us - we’ve just lived through the most excruciating 2 seasons. On forums recently I’ve seen us described as a “dumpster fire” and a “show” and they’re just the selected highlights.
I’m amazed anyone is willing to give us a go - let alone someone with Sam’s playing pedigree.
And I have to say whenever Sean Long has been a guest on Sky he’s talked a lot of sense - definitely a sound rugby brain. If we can get him on board as assistant I think there’s a lot to be excited about. It probably won’t be plain sailing but it must be a lot less embarrassing than the drivel we’ve had to put up with of late.
Let’s get behind Big Sam and I have a feeling that this time next year we’re the ones coming up with colourful descriptive terms for our near neighbours.
He certainly won’t be hiding in the coaches box at full time.

Powell came with one LLS in about 18 years of coaching lol. Proof is in the pudding, and he was obviously a pudding. Don't try and make out that Powell was ever a good appointment and that Sam also is because he has zero experience. What we need is a coach with experience WINNING. As a coach.

Go on then who would you have appointed?

It's not my goddamn job. I certainly wouldn't have gone from hiring Holbrook to a nobody though.

Where in my post did I try to make out Powell was a good appointment?
People are already laying into Sam because he’s inexperienced. My point was that experience guarantees nothing.
And if you’re suggesting we should only appoint a coach with a fuller trophy cabinet - I can’t see any of them beating a path to our door.

A coach who has won a few trophies may not have the hunger to turn this wonderfully mad club around. We all know it’s a huge gamble but Sam will be very determined and will command respect. He will be thinking that if during his first senior coaching role he does what no other coach could do in nearly 70 years his career will receive a huge boost.
I was dead against this appointment when I first heard of it but I don’t think it’s as mad as it sounds and I’m up for it.

I read the BBC one,
To read the same story on 10 different sites is as pointless as playing Mata'utia

| Anyone remember that tv programme Soap? Each week they went more bonkers than the last. This appointment has that sort of vibe.
Still, it’s done, and assuming he turns up for the next season I will just have to accept it, get behind the team and hope I’m as right about this as I am each week in the Prediction comp (Dear Reader I’m absolutely rubbish).
