Agreed. Anyone who doesn't think Tomkins is world class is watching the wrong sport, seriously.

I'm not talking about Tomkins specifically here, but different people have different perceptions of 'world class'.
For me, 'world class' means they have consistently performed at the highest level and have, for a decent enough period, outperformed their peers and established themselves as one of the very best in the world.
For me, it's hard to say any player that's only played in SL has done that, as SL isn't the highest level. Tomkins has been a class above in his time here and he's clearly a talent, but how can you say he's outperformed the likes of Slater, Hayne, Stewart and Inglis every week? I don't watch the NRL enough to judge (I imagine there are plenty more full backs I left out) so I would never claim Tomkins as world class. Clearly, he's outgrown super league, he's clearly on another level compared to most of our backs, but he has a lot to prove to be 'world class' for me, but that's just my interpretation of it. Some people just expect the player to be pretty good and they'll say he's world class.

| I agree with the overuse of the phrase "world class" - I blame the football media and it's fans. He's a cut above most in Superleague but until he's done it down under on a consistent basis he's just an excellent player.
I think some Wire fans view of him is down to the fact he's been a thorn in most team's sides in Superleague, but very rarely ours. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't actually remember him having a storming game against us in recent times...

Don't get me wrong...I'd have him in a Wire shirt but it's still only one game (that I'd conveniently forgotten about)

| I refer to my last post. Let's see him on Saturday. For me he's been quiet in this tournament and nowhere near the best fullback let alone player. People can moan and whinge about the shame of some Warrington fans but I'm basing this on the games we've seen to date in the competition.

| We would be hard pressed to find a Wire fan who would not want him in the P&B.

Don't get me wrong, I'd have him at Warrington as a back up for Matty Russell.
Matty against the big teams and Sam for the cannon fodder.

Not one with Tomkin's suspect temperament.

| Brian Bevan never got past reserve grade for the Roosters when he was in Australia and he never got capped by the Kangaroos so how can he be considered "world class"? All he ever did was run tries in in the English competition and never went back down under to test himself.
Compare that to Joel Monaghan, who was one of the most prolific try scorers in the NRL, played State of Origin and won caps for Australia.
Perhaps we have made a statue of the wrong winger.

| Not Charnley, he hasn't been there and done it in the NRL.
Jamie Ainscough maybe.
