| Quote: morrisseyisawire "To be honest, I thought after a worrying first 10 minutes we matched their pack and later on dominated it - particularly when Bullock arrived.
I actually think on paper the Leeds pack is the best in the competition.'"
Thought Ashton's interception was well timed, as we were losing the yardage battle early on. Much more cohesive performance than against Leeds, and better organised when defending the play the ball. Bullock did catch the eye with some good runs, but needs to learn when the off load is on, and not when going backwards in your own 25 yard area. Walker was excellent. Yes, there will be better teams to encounter, but last night showed there's potential that we can find another gear (or even two) as the season progresses.

| I must admit, I feared the worse pre game and early on. The Ashton intercept really changed the mood in the stadium. It felt quite tense until then, but there’s nothing like seeing a genuine speedster going the length of the field!
Clark was good in the first half and Hughes in the second. Both of which I’m surprised with if I’m honest.
Mulhearn stood up well, and Walker is closing the gap on Clark nicely.

| Good to see an open game with the ball going through hands instead of 5 forward runs then panic on the last. The young lads are fitting in well & confidence will grow the more matches they play. The Mulhearn 80 yard try was straight from the annals of Rauhihi & Wood efforts of previous years. Painful at the start but came away thoroughly entertained.

Because there was only one class centre, Gelling, decent enough since he’s been here.
I’ve said it so often on here… a winger is only as good as his pass.
….And the difference to players once that have had a pre season. Jace Clark is back to the form he had 3 seasons ago before being hampered. Back to doing all that ugly stuff that gets no credit because most of it is off the ball. Line speed forcing errors, dummy running, taking the ball up to tire the middles, tackling and more tackling.

| Cas are very bad, it's difficult to see them winning too many games this season. Some of their individual efforts were just unacceptable. The tackle attempt by Liam Watts on Mulhearn was appalling and there were several more like him. How bad was Jake Trueman? His move to Leeds/Wire will be in jeopardy if he puts many more performances like that in this season. Major issues at that club, Powell got out at just the right time it seems. Wire looked better than you did against Leeds, but you've not been properly tested yet so couldn't form an opinion on your chances or whether you've improved from last season off the back of those games.
Away coaches bricked again from the posts on Twitter last night. Just embarrassing and time the club and Police got together and did something about that. Absolutely no context to it, you can understand high emotions if you're robbed in the last minute against a bitter rival, but a nothing game against Cas? Why the need to smash the coach up? People must see it happening, why is nothing being done by the club? Secure parking provision or paying for security staff or Police to ensure away fans get away safely?

| Behaviour like that is disgraceful ,when most fans are tolerant of others.

| i wondered if the club had given the residents of 'new pond life corner' the flags to keep them entertained last night and off the smoke bombs.

To be fair to Watts, he was injured in the ribs earlier and was holding them with his left arm just as Mulhern started his run. Radford should’ve taken him off earlier.
The brick incident was by some kids who looked about 12-13 years old. They weren’t wearing club gear but I assume they were on their way out of the ground and are fans. If not, it’s up to the police to monitor who is around the ground waiting to make trouble when the match finishes.
Interesting to see how Powell can make Trueman look great but Radford makes him look very ordinary. I thought Cas were okay defensively it was just the stupid indiscipline which gave Widdop and Williams territory to run the show.

| Mcshane had the quietest game I can remember him having against us for a long time, usually he runs all over while we grab at his shirt. Not sure if that is because he was off colour or because Powell had a good plan for limiting him. Either way, that will have made life much harder for Trueman and co.

| My two-penneth.
Glad we came away with the win and it was a decent performance overall. But..
I can't get carried away yet. I still think our pack struggled and Cas were running over us too easily early on. Mulhern doesn't seem to make the yardage of a top class prop. Philbin will never be a starting prop and Bullock went ok apart from a couple of schoolboy knock ons through poor ball control.
Cas were their own downfall with poor discipline often getting us down the field. Having said that, we were always dangerous with the ball in hand and it was good to see us shipping the ball out wide causing issues for Cas.
Danny Walker - can't fault the lads effort. He provide good quick ball from dummy half but i've yet to see him do many dummy half scoots like Clarke does. Perhaps if he did more of this it would put our forwards more on the front foot.

This completely confuses cause and effect. You do a scoot because your forward / King / Ratchford has got you a front-foot play the ball, you don't create momentum from a scoot. Walker is very good at runs from dummy half by the way, but he is being compared with the best in the league at it.

You only need to see some of his performances last year to see what he can do when the pack is on the front foot and we’re getting quick play the balls. That’s what won us the game away at Leeds last August.
