| Quote: Oxford Exile "The term 'legend' is too easily given away IMO.
A good player is NOT a legend.
A great player might be.
A great player that won titles and gave a life to the sport IS a legend both for the club(s) AND the sport. Briers. Hanley. Murphy. Sinfield. Peacock. etc.
A hard working/good player who gave absolutely everything for one club in a life of playing IS a legend for that club. Cullen. Jackson. Westwood. etc.'"
Probably why the topic is headed "wire legends".

| What about Rowland Phillips? The man revoultionised our style of play and became the template for the SL era prop. Only joking, move away from the keyboard.
Duane Mann is a player who never seems to pop up on these threads. As tough as they come, hugely skilled, hard working - he was ahead of his time.

| Roland Phillips: a player that seemed more popular with the crowd than with the coaching staff. The last I heard he was coaching the Welsh Ladies RU team. Nice work if you can get it..
I notice that RD has John Bevan as his Wire Legends right wing. Surely the No2 shirt should be a walk in for Brian Bevan..a player that epitomises the term Legend. Also, from memory John played predominantly on the left, as both centre and wing.

Love that starting 13 BBW (only kidding) My only changes and I'd love to watch your team would be Hicks on the wing sorry Dessie, Gordon at scrum half and Tamati at nine. When I first joined the forum I had Gregory at 7 in a best ever Wire team thread but I'm not sure that this is the same thing.
As for your bench happy with Monaghan but I'd have a spot for Bob Eccles and Mike Nicholas. I'm not sure about Westwood, sure he's a Wire legend but I'm not sure he's an impact player if that doesn't sound daft?

It may have been that. Either way I wasn't buying bullseye brown and woodbines at the time...more like dad buying me woodpecker cider and smiths salt n shake.
....I just remembered it was under floodlights and Bev scored to the right of the sticks attacking the fletcher end.

Warrington played a Salford side, and Brian Bevan only came on to the field in the second half to replace John Bevan who then switched sides to play for Salford.
It may have been under floodlights but they were not turned on as it was a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Brian did score at the Fletcher end.
