| Interesting thread. From a completely unscientific review I'd say more rugby league fans are warming towards Koukash than was previously the case. There is still a vanguard who despise him, mainly because they don't like the thought of their club being threatened. These people jump on Koukash's behaviour as a reason for the dislike but they would have found a way to hate Mandela if he had taken over at Wakey in the mid 90s. Rugby league fans, in general, prefer the established order.
Couple of points:
1. The bottle throwing incident and reaction was embarrassing. Koukash foolishly believed our most idiotic fan and things spiralled from there.
2. The salary cap comment has been blown out of proportion. He was new to the sport and was, I would suggest, making a comment about the ease of the cap being broken as opposed to how he was planning to break it. I have no recollection of this 'I'll pay the fine comment' someone referred to earlier. He has also repeatedly said he wouldn't break the cap when asked in other interviews.

| My personal issue with him is his arrogance that money, and the belief that liberally throwing it around, is the solution to all problems. Entrepreneurs in the game are of course welcome, and their business insight invaluable in a game where business insight usually means checking the size of the overdraft, but his constant bombast is beginning to irk.
I repeat, Salford haven't proven anything on or off the field as yet, and the good Doctor and his stooges will be judged by the facts of the next seven months, the same as everyone else. He'd be advised focusing his business acumen and energies in that direction as opposed to cheap shots at the RFL.
Nothing wrong with railing against authority.
Brian Clough? Adored him.
Jose Mourinho? Could listen to him all day.
Key difference - charm and proven, tangible SUCCESS.

| To be honest I don't mind Koukash. I have heard a number of interviews over the last 12 months and I believe he does enjoy the game of RL. Yes he is outspoken and does not know as much about RL as some owners / chairmen but he is putting his money where his mouth is. I think he mentions Warrington and Simon Moran a lot because he aspires to build a club like ours or even better. A strong well supported Salford could be the best thing to happen to RL in this country in years. The BBC are based in the city and I would love to play Salford at Wembley this year. The RFL should move their media / communications HQ to the Salford City stadium if koukash manages to take over it.
If I were a Salford fan I would be over the moon with Koukash.

| I like the idea of a 'marquee' signing, who would be exempt from the salary cap, but as somebody has already pointed out, surely it would be unfair to bring it in with immediate effect??
If it was brought in then surely clubs have to be given adequate notice of its introduction, so that they could then properly plan their squads?
As it is, Koukash's request just reeks of another publicity stunt, and another chance for him to flaunt his wealth - Also, it once more displays his lack of patience in building a trophy winning side... He's like a big, spoilt child, wanting everything immediately.

| no salford shouldnt have an exemption to the cap, abslutely ridicoulous arguement. in that case lets line up a stupidly high bid for a signing off our own then whinge to we get our way.
the salary cap is there for a reason, deffo give it a go for next season as it fair on every other team. cant do it immediately just because they want one more player.

I'd prefer to lose him to Union than allow an egotist to run roughshod over the rest of the league, just because he has the wealth to do so.
If this signing and this rule change was for 2015, then, by all means, go and sign him up.... However, if you allow it now, then you are giving a side a totally unfair advantage over the rest of the competition - How many other players of Burgess's quality are available at this particular time for others to sign as their 'marquee' signing?
