Quote: Dropkick Murphy "I went to Warrington Town V Gresley Rovers once with my mate from uni who supports Gresley and actually came to visit me for the weekend specifically for the purpose of attending that fixture.
We sat behind the dugout and the manager was screaming instructions at some player called "Bodge" and having a go at him. I was leathered and just sarcastically, and loudly, shouted "Yeah, for f*** sake Bodge!" which resulted in the manager turning round and giving me the sort of look that says "Go and stand as far away from me as you can right now or I'm going to Eric Cantona you".
It was a good day out.'"
You have to be careful at giving out stick at that level. I once saw a lad, about 18 but hanging around with a load of 14 year olds giving loads of racial abuse to an opposition player with all the 14 year olds laughing and hanging on to every word. When the player heard he climbed over the fence, into the stand and pinned the lad up against the back of the stand, threatening to smash his face in. He was quiet as a mouse after that.
We once give Tommy Hutchinson some stick about his own goal in the '81 cup final. When we saw that it was getting to him, we followed him around the pitch giving him grief. Every time he took a corner there was someone giving it to him. He scored a last minute equaliser, ran over to where we were stood and said, "That wasn't an own goal lads". Warrington went on to win in extra time, cue more abuse for the rest of the game. He didn't hang around getting off the pitch at the end.
