| The best we can hope for now is probably an assistant coach from the NRL who would relish the opportunity to prove his credentials for a top job back home… I know this failed last time.. but what other options do we have?
Whoever we appoint now, will know they weren’t first pick after the Holbrook farce… so it’s slightly tainted in that regard.
I would still be happy with a Briers or a Monaghan…. What I absolutely DONT want is us to take another SL coach, like Rowley… or an embarrassing attempt at throwing big money at someone and taking them away from the current club.

| Quote ratticusfinch="ratticusfinch"Fair points but there has to be an assistant (or upcoming coach) in the NRL who fancies two years of proving his credentials over here and thereby landing a better gig back in oz. I assume we’ve approached Hannay and Morris who would both be much better options than Burgess. Both long shots admittedly.'"
Well Morris was an 8/1 shot last time betting was up.

Morris wasn't on Sky's list of candidates for some reason.

| I can understand the reticence regarding Rowley but if the choice was Burgess or Rowley who would people prefer? Personally, basing it on very little, I can just see Burgess being an absolute disaster.

Out of those 2, Burgess for me. With a Noble/Kear type mentor figure.

To quote the Richard Pryor film I vote for none of the above.

| Burgess could go on to be one of the best rugby coaches in the world and that coumd start with us. Can't write him off before he has been given a chance, it depends on his ideas and how well he adapts to different personalities. I'd prefer someone who has been an assistant for longer though who is closer to being given his first head role.
Rowley is a solid no fom me, that said if he could bring Lafai with him it would make it easier to swallow.

| Just read through all 28 pages of this. Barring Holbrook ruling himself out, still no nearer enlightenment or even a consensus on here.

| After watching the Catalans performance last night and watching them over the season when on sky, I’m hoping they go on to win the competition. Over the last 4 years, Steve Mcmanara has done a brilliant job, exactly what Warrington need. He’s won the cup for Catalans and I’m hoping with a Grand Final win he will see Catalans as a completed project and be up for a new challenge. Has it stands he would be my no1 choice at the moment. He recruits well and makes the right decisions who to let go.
The amount of good French players he’s brought through the system is also impressive.
Laughed at by many a few years back the ex England coach, Australian assistant coach and now head coach should in my opinion be the man Warrington board should be approaching for next season.

Unfortunately we would be the ones getting laughed at now if we tried to get McNamara.
What would our pitch to him be - "give up your lifestyle in the south of France with a quality team and come to live in Warrington to sort out the mess we've made ourselves".
