Bar Asotasi, I'd expect EVERY SL prop to be "solid in defence". IT'S A BASIC OF EVERY FORWARD.
The fella is gone. He's served this sport superbly for nearly 20 years. Time to bow out. I don't want a RL legend to tar his reputation. Des Drummond, anyone?

| I think Wells and Stephenson are a little gutted we've won tonight, questioning a non knock-on by O'Brian and a 8 times video ref reviewed try by Evans, yet no mention of a potential penalty try, and a dodgy play the ball for a Cats try.
Well done, Wire. Tonight, we were stout fellows.

I'm sorry, SAM.
I'll self flagellate with a rolled up copy of Open Rugby.
Eddie Hemmings' cat will get a good kicking tomorrow, when Eddie returns from London.

| I spoke with Brian Carney this week.
He's a closet Wire. So it all balances out.

| Quote ="morrisseyisawire"Yesterday's man. Even if Simms doesn't quite measure up (and he has the recent pedigreee, unlike Asotasi) we have Hill, England, Evans & Wood.'"
Having watched three Cowboys games over the past few weeks, I am very, very excited about Simms coming over. He looks to be everything that Asotasi is not. When it was announced that he was Warrington bound for next season, I read a few comments about how people would rather have either of his two brothers Corbin or Tariq, but having watched both of them as well, I think at this point in time, Ashton is the perfect choice for us.

| It's beyond me how Stevo can bang on about fingertip control being enough, and yet the palm going on the ball isn't enough.

| Wigan's lying on is something to behold. Since McLennan left Leeds and Maguire went to Wigan the shift in which team gets away with the most lying on has certainly changed.
Even Tony Rae commented on it before.

It's not just the lying on, it's the sly hand or forearm in the face when the Rovers player is on his back.

| The thing is, at the end of HKR's last three sets, Silverwood has told Wigan he wants them to quicken the ruck up. What good is merely telling them and then not punishing them? It's just telling them he's an easy touch and they'll just carry on doing it.

It's a bit late for that. He should have warned them in the first 10 minutes.

| I thought Richard Silverwood had a great game on sunday. tonight he was awful. The latest wigan ptb tactic in defence is to push the tackled player back when he's getting up after the tackle. It puts him slightly off balance and slows down the ptb even more. It was never penalised.

The ptb in particular is becoming increasingly niggly. Players lying prone and not clearing the area, players not playing the ball straight, moving off the mark, clamping the tackling players arm trying (and usually getting) cheap penalties plus all the usual John Gielgud thespian tomfoolery.
Silverwood made an art of the inept tonight though. Shouting "release" then watching defenders blatantly refusing to do so is comedy minus the laughs.
I particularly enjoyed old smuggy Ganson waxing lyrical about the officials working together effecitvely and contributing to the spectacle, then choking on his G&T when all said officials missed a blatant knock-on in the build up to Wigan's match saving try,

Agreed. The ptb was an absolute disgrace generally.

| How long have rugby league teams been resorting to rugby unions tactics trapping the ball in the scrum and unsportingly gaining a penalty when the other team breaks ?

There was one when SOL was pushing the man at the ptb and salford knocked on from it but low and behold no penalty!
