23 - 20 - 4 Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10174.png

IMO it will take a big effort from one of the other teams to prevent our teams contesting both finals this year. I'd be amazed if we aren't at least facing off at Wembley.

Wigan are breathtaking at the moment. I get the feeling though that if they ever lost Tomkins for a significant length of time they'd really struggle. Everything in their attack is about him. Unbelievable player. Hopefully one day he will return to his favourite club.

I think thats a very accurate assessment.

The Best Wigan Side ever.......Simply because every year Eddie Hemmings rants about this being the best superleague ever, and anyone from 6 clubs are in with a realistic chance of winning it, any club can beat any club on their day etc etc...

He's stuck two fingers up to his bosses and is no longer bigging up the sky Superleague.

Instead its quite simply a "One horse Race".........

Do you not think that may be because Wigan dominated them and didn't let them play to their potential rather then us just getting lucky for 3 weeks on the spin?

FWIW my opinion is this- We're a good side, infact a very good one but we're doing nothing Wire weren't doing last year in ripping teams to shreds and ultimately it achieved very little (the league leaders shield is better then nowt but it's not the prize anybody really strives for). I don't buy in to peaking too soon but when winning the big trophies come down to playing knock out ties anything can happen as teams can raise their games to a level they can't get to on a consistent basis.

There's nothing between the Wigan and Warrington teams IMO. We're in better form but Wire are just ticking along nicely and will have a very fresh set of players come the business end.

I honestly can't see another side other then Wigan or Wire winning a trophy tbh.

Wrong. Leeds went full time before Wigan
By the time Wigan went full time pro in 1991, we'd already won 2 World Club Championships, 3 league titles and 5 Challenge Cups between 1985 and 1991. Don't let that spoil your 'level playing field' argument though icon_biggrin.gif

I agree this 'only full time team' argument to demean the achievements of the Wigan team in that era is a load of rubbish.

If you go back in time and make every team full time Wigan would still have had head and shoulders the best team.

Wigan had a group of all time greats in their line up back then which meant they were always going to dominate, to try and imply that Hanley, Edwards, Bell and co were only as successful as they were was because they were against amateurs is ridiculous.

3 trophies in the last 2 seasons suggests otherwise.

Never judge a team from one performance. Wigan were very good, Leeds were very poor; neither are really as good or as poor as they showed on Friday night.

Wigan are playing well but so were we this time last year. Leeds were just as $hyte this time last year but reached both finals (winning one) and win the WCC. We scored 42 at Headingly ourselves last season. Who's to say that will be the best that Wigan play all season?

Let's see how the season goes, eh?

Comparing this Wigan side to their best ever side is like comparing last weekends sunny weather to the weather Summer after Summer in the Mediterranean and saying we have better Summers than Greece.

It's a quite ridiculous question to ask really.

We'll see how ridiculous at the end of the season.I'll be having a little flutter for them to win the clean sweep + yes we might have scored 42 last season but if my memory serves me right we wasn't missing key players, that's what people seem to be forgetting + like previous posts have stated i don't buy into this the opposing team were excuse everytime a big score is piled on.That's like saying Utd were cack when City stuck 6 on them.

it isnt that simple though is it?

which of the last two warrington sides produced the better performance :

the one with key players missing
or
the one with a number of key players returning fresh and ready to go....?

or how about we rested players against widnes and put almost 70 points on em, and Wigan rested players against Widnes and got beat...........???
it doesnt mean anything does it? as does comparing what we did to leeds a year ago.....

we are making more mistakes than even the test side in the league and that can not be anything but a massive concern...........
