In our quest for a top coach, just a thought - when did any club in Super League last appoint a 'top' coach?

Wigan when they appointed Noble and us when got Smith are the last memorable ones for me - Recently, most clubs have just been taking punts on relative unknowns, or bringing in guys who are already shopworn.

My point is that for all our desire to get in a top coach, the reality is we are probably going to have to bite the bullet and take a calculated gamble and hope it comes good, because top coaches are actually thin on the ground and also unlikely to want to coach in an inferior league like ours anyway.

You mean we're not going to get Craig Bellamy? Dammit.

I think all the top Aussie coaches are happily tied up with good jobs & don't need to come over to a rainy ,cold windswept island.

Short odds for someone that wasn`t on the list before.

Has he had any coaching experience?

Do we still have contacts through Andrew Johns?

Not sure that he has and I see this as a novelty appointment if we go down this road.

If he fetched his golf clubs then it'd certainly make for some interesting training sessions ...

The beauty of having Chambers & Marshall as caretakers is that once a replacement is found eventually ,they will just revert to their old jobs at the club with very little pressure during their time at the helm.

Burgess is an assistant at South Sydney, and coaches a lower league team that got to the grand final last year. So he does have experience but i'd rather not have him as a head coach.
Problem being, all the proven winners are already taken so we will be taking a punt on whoever we sign.
