If Cooper was 3 or 4 years younger, I would be uptight that he was leaving.

He is a free agent, & if he wants to leave, then it is best for Wire and him that he departs for elsewhere.

Our recruitment since KFP has been involved has taken a more than significant nosedive. His Australia tours fill me with dread to be honest, still he will spend all of the cash and we will no doubt have a new marquee fullback and a half with no kicking game sorted in the next few weeks. Maybe there will be a couple of 5ft 8, 13 stone props that he could magically enearth as well.

Probably a culture thing between the ideas of a coach (trying to bring in change) and some players who think they know it all, or who have had their heads turned by agents (or other clubs).

Probably no different when a new boss comes in at any place of work. He'll have new ideas that some of the older employees won't accept.

What gets me in recent times when we have brought a player from down under they really like to show us a video montage of their highlights. I have never seen that on the pitch when they got here, you think we learn something from that.

In hindsight, a woeful season was probably needed to prompt a major overhaul of the squad instead of just tinkering round the edges. The reality is we have combined very poor recruitment policy with a number of our senior players being past their best. Cooper, Ratchford, D Clark, Charnley and Currie are in the latter group who have served us well but are no longer able to compete at the top level and to have that many at one time suggests inadequate long term planning.
It is unlikely that any coach could turn that around in one season which Lee Briers alluded to when he left to join Wigan.
On a more positive note, we have some really talented youngsters we can build a team round in Thewlis, Wrench, Longstaff, Dean , Ashton and Walker and I like the look of Leon Hayes and Lucas Green in the Academy.
So new recruitment will determine the success or otherwise of DP so let’s give him the chance instead of knee jerk criticism.
