Depends on the contract type I guess. They will lose £1m in funding should they be relegated so could be tempted by a transfer fee. Have only really seen him play once tbh so not sure how good he is. We may wel be in the market for a deputy for Ratch next year if Brown’s injury is as bad as it seems.

The contract could have a termination clause in the case of relegation. If not the contract remains in force with a requirement to pay the players. If the players are not paid the legal entity of Widnes would be in breach of contract leaving the players with a cause of action to sue but this would be pointless as there is little money to pay out damages and they would join the long list of creditors with HMRC being first in line.

Don't relegated clubs receive a parachute payment? I thought that's why leigh are offloading players because they didn't make the top 4 so can't afford the wages next year? Means Widnes would be ok for at least next year if relegated so they could afford the current players wages. I may be way off here but that's what i have in my head??
