| Quote ="BaldRick"Just because of something that was said to me last Saturday on the coach home from Wembley . An off-the-cuff comment that I thought could actually be worth a punt . I rarely visit the bookies . The comment made me think that Wire were in with a very good chance of turning Wigan over big style today . The more I thought about it the more I convinced myself it would happen . So I went and had a go .
+30 against Hull next week seems good too .'"

| The Wigan Ultras get a bad rap on here, but I'm gonna go against the grain and say they've improved their support massively. I'm not really bothered what they call themselves as Ultras is a common name for all sorts of organised football groups across Europe, and the likes of Accrington Stanley and York City have done it here. They're not patricularly original either, as most of their songs seemed to be reworded Liverpool or Man United songs (which has also influenced their flag designs) and Dale Cavese is as generic as it gets in Europe - although I do like it.
The fact is though, they are loud and they don't go anywhere.
Let's be honest, once the result was beyond doubt yesterday what we all wanted to see and hear was "the Wigan walk" and silence from their end, so we could all wave them goodbye and sing about being top of the league.
What we actually saw and heard was a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that completely drowned out anything we could muster, leaving us to resort to a childish "you're sh*t" at the brief quiet moments of the tune. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs/chants, because as soon as "We are top of the league" got going by us it died out seconds later when everyone accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot and went back to "you're sh*t". No point even bothering with "We're gonna win the league", or "We shall not be moved" after that.
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. If they're honest with themselves (although I'm sure they won't be and will slag me off for this post) I think most fans of other clubs who slag them off and just jealous that their own club's support is nowhere near that good.
Not fishing with any of that either.

| I watched Quins v Wigan
and then
the Quins game v us
Wigan had more fans (which you would expect) and were noisier than us, they have improved the support 10 fold.
Probably the insecurities of the past fans mocking them forced them to change but hats off to them

Wigan fans are better now than they used to be. That game yesterday was primed for the Wigan Walk and in the past they would definately have done one once Monaghan went full length. Obviously some of their support said to the Walkers "oi hang on a minute, we're laughed at by every RL fan in the country, why are you leaving early?" and the penny must have dropped. The Besiktas Carsi chant they have is okay... it's just another of them songs that needs a drum and has no words though, it's a bit think sounding, as are many of our drum chants ("der der der, der der der"icon_wink.gif. They're all a bit simple. It would be better if we had more proper songs to sing words to. Not many SL clubs have them anymore.

| The Wembley factor is valid, but it was still without a doubt the best away support of the season by a long way at the HJ despite them being on the receiving end of a hammering that takes finishing top out of their hands. No one can argue with that.
I told my bird that I'd be an hour late home if we won as I'd miss the first train celebrating, but as all I could hear was Wigan fans even after the hooter their didn't seem much point sticking around so I legged it to Central for the 14.44. I'm not saying it spoiled the day as nothing could spoil that, but it did take the edge off slightly as I was dying to get a fist pumping "We shall not be moved" on the go, and it just wasn't gonna happen.
Wigan fans will no doubt be delighted to know that, so as I said before, job done from them.

They didn't start singing till towards the end though, there lies the problem. If they were vocal throughout similar to what LFC and MUFC are away from home then I'd give them that recognition. the fan group concept is a great idea, just think the name and songs are a bit naff.

Dale Cavese was when they really came into their own and yes, that was towards the end.
However, they were singing before kick off and only occassionally stopped during the game despite how badly it was going for them.
I stand in the corner of the West Stand between the away fans and the South Stand, and they were far louder than the South Stand throughout.

| Who cares if they were louder? We owned their team from 1 to 17 with a performance that was beyond our wildest expectation ten years ago.

You beat me to it. I'd rather support a team that had just destroyed their opposition but the fans were a bit quieter all game than support a side that had been destroyed so resorted to foul play. They can have all of their flags and Turkish football chants but as long as we finish top of the league and then get through to the GF then I couldn't care less.

suprisingly I have an opposite view,
I do However agree the pies support was good but as already mentioned they only got going towards the end when the scoreline was blown out and they decided they may aswell enjoy themselves...
I attended the game with a Leeds fan and a Huddersfield fan unsuprisingly they were both impressed by our brand of Football but they loved the pondlife corner.
the Hudds fan told me today he couldnt stop singing the "you've had your day out now eff off home" song all day, they absolutely loved the "colourful banter" that is produce in that south west corner....
I thought the rather offensive response to that ridiculous nah nah nah chant was brilliant and most definitely put a dent in the gusto in which it is normally sung....So well done pond life corner.
A point about the Acqoustics is that while at the game i didnt hear the "are you widnes in disguise" chant but heard it quite clearly on the Telly.....
its Bizarre .......

I've said it before but their is no passion in the Warrington support anymore. I remember being packed in the Fletcher Street when we played Australia in the early 90's. We were stood at the back but when we took the lead the celebrating was that much that we ended up near the bottom.
On Sunday, where I was stood, people were happy and were smiling and clapping when we scored but that was it. Me and the lad were jumping up and down hugging each other as the trys went in like a pair of loons, but we were on our own.
I think I realised this a couple of years ago when we beat Wigan in the semi final. If we'd had done that a few years earlier there would have been a full on pitch invasion at the final hooter. First trip to Wembley in 19 years and first good chance of winning it for 34 years. Fans are more content nowadays with politely clapping the team off and going home.

| They are getting better but they would have all left as usual if they had lost again Leeds. Remember in 09 after the semi final we played Wigan and they battered us but didn't care as we had Wembley coming up.
