Been keeping an eye on sky sports news since I heard the news expecting something to pop up.
Drummond captained Great Britain and when he signed for us was the all time most capped GB player with something like 47 caps.
TV star in the 80' s on superstars and SSN have not even mentioned it.
Yet some yank that plays a game on the other side of the ocean retires and they are all over it.

Nah Sky sports to bust talking about Tom Brady, even BBC website have opened an HYS on Brady but Dessie only gets a post, sad times when we can’t comment on sports people in our own country.

Gutted isn't the word..loved this guy to bits..went to the ground in 2019 for an afternoon with sir Les Boyd walked in Rodney for a few and des walked in with his lad..he looked as fit as a fiddle far fitter than most players today..got numerous memories of the guy as we all have but one to savour is the iro punch at wembley near full time..god bless mate r.i.p thanks for the memories..

In shock. I grew up watching Dessie. What a tough, tough man. The way he flew in off his wing to smash his opposition centre was borderline illegal. Searing pace too of course, the only man I ever saw who caught Martin offiah from behind. Incredible athlete, taken far too young. RIP mate, thanks for everything.

Absolutely shocked to hear this when awaiting the game yesterday. Certainly on my short list of heroes. An edge of your seat exciting player who seemed to be up to full speed after only a few paces. Devastating with the ball and I most certainly would not want to be tackled by him. He was only at Warrington for a relatively short time when compared to his time at Leigh but quite rightly is a legend at both clubs. A joy to watch. RIP Dessie, the glorious memories will live on.

Very sad news rip big man

I echo that as a fellow Loiner, he scored some incredible tries at Headingley, a great winger and a terrible loss.

That try at Wilderspool v Cas where he picked the ball up from dummy half and skinned Graham Steadman as if he was stood still. What a player and what a nice bloke too.

Have to say though, still don't know how he was awarded 'that' try at Leeds......

Although it was some years ago now I answered an appeal for witnesses to the incident involving Des Drummond and a Widnes supporter at Naughton Park. I was duly called to the court and put in the witness box under oath. The place was packed but got my nerves under control. I was asked various questions by the prosecuting QC bearing in mind the incident took place right in front of me. The questions were: Did you see the plaintiff being punched by Mr Drummond. To Which I replied: No it was more of a push from Mr Drummond with the heel of his hand. My missus has hit me much harder when I've been late in on a Friday night. One of the other questions was: Did you hear the plaintiff racially abuse Mr Drummond. To which my reply was: I was stood directly behind the plaintiff but couldn't hear what was being said because of the noise of the crowd. What I could see was the plaintiff stabbing his index finger at Mr Drummond but I assumed it wasn't the plaintiff asking Mr Drummond about his wife and kids. After this there was laughter in the court and I knew then Des would be found not guilty. I didn't commit perjury, simply embroidered the truth just a little bit. Des must have been impressed by my evidence for he attended my birthday party a few months later and presented me with an expensive pair of leather gloves. To say I was shocked when I read of his passing in today's newspaper would be an understatement..Des,playing legend and gentleman RIP

I never saw Dessie play in the flesh ,just highlights of matches. Such a shame, RIP Des.
