In my opinion this Wigan side is already better than the 2010 grand final winning side. The vast improvement of players like Mcillorum and even Tomkins is astounding.
We may well need to re build for next year with Lima, Tommy, Carmont and maybe Finch going but we have shown against Leeds (who weren't great) that we do have depth

It was a statement I made tongue in cheek cos we all know what happens when a thread about wigan gets posted on the warrington forum. Tape measures at the ready

| You can't compare the Wigan team of today to the Hanley , Edwards era as that team then was the only fully professional team in the league and had an unfair advantage over the others !
This new Wigan team is good but not better than us , and can be beaten by any team on a one off , but that's what the cap has brought to the competition !
It's looking like a two horse race again for the shield between us n pies but someone could go on a run but we still have plenty to come back in M Monnas and Sol and Myler at the right end of the season fresh and ready for battle !
So the answer is No ! Reasons above !

| Wigan are in a rich vein of form at the moment, but so were we last season and people were saying that we were unbeatable. If people think back to last year there were constant mentions from Wigan fans that every time we handed out a hammering, the opposition were either understrength or out of form. Anyone with any sense should reserve judgement until after the GF.

Darlings of Super League: |

| Ridiculous thread, as ridiculous as when a few people on here floated the possibility that we were possibly the best team of the Super League era during a rush of blood last season.
Wigan are a very good team, in superb form and with a nucleus of top players who are working well together. But you can't look down that team list and say that there aren't a few players in there who could fall out of form as quickly as they got into it.
Only time will tell, but we won't do our own chances any good if we start to internalise the Phil Clarke rubbish.

| You can only play as good as the other team lets you. Wigan stopped Leeds playing anything half decent and Leeds didnt do anything to stop Wigan playing the way they want to.
I woud say Wigan are a very good side, who are confident and on a rich vein of form. We was playing like this last season and got a shield for our efforst. So you cant compare them to a trophy winning side as they havent played this well at the business end of the season, like them past teams did.

Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10174.png |

| IMO it will take a big effort from one of the other teams to prevent our teams contesting both finals this year. I'd be amazed if we aren't at least facing off at Wembley.

| Wigan are breathtaking at the moment. I get the feeling though that if they ever lost Tomkins for a significant length of time they'd really struggle. Everything in their attack is about him. Unbelievable player. Hopefully one day he will return to his favourite club.

| The Best Wigan Side ever.......Simply because every year Eddie Hemmings rants about this being the best superleague ever, and anyone from 6 clubs are in with a realistic chance of winning it, any club can beat any club on their day etc etc...
He's stuck two fingers up to his bosses and is no longer bigging up the sky Superleague.
Instead its quite simply a "One horse Race".........

Do you not think that may be because Wigan dominated them and didn't let them play to their potential rather then us just getting lucky for 3 weeks on the spin?
FWIW my opinion is this- We're a good side, infact a very good one but we're doing nothing Wire weren't doing last year in ripping teams to shreds and ultimately it achieved very little (the league leaders shield is better then nowt but it's not the prize anybody really strives for). I don't buy in to peaking too soon but when winning the big trophies come down to playing knock out ties anything can happen as teams can raise their games to a level they can't get to on a consistent basis.
There's nothing between the Wigan and Warrington teams IMO. We're in better form but Wire are just ticking along nicely and will have a very fresh set of players come the business end.
I honestly can't see another side other then Wigan or Wire winning a trophy tbh.

Wrong. Leeds went full time before Wigan
By the time Wigan went full time pro in 1991, we'd already won 2 World Club Championships, 3 league titles and 5 Challenge Cups between 1985 and 1991. Don't let that spoil your 'level playing field' argument though

I agree this 'only full time team' argument to demean the achievements of the Wigan team in that era is a load of rubbish.
If you go back in time and make every team full time Wigan would still have had head and shoulders the best team.
Wigan had a group of all time greats in their line up back then which meant they were always going to dominate, to try and imply that Hanley, Edwards, Bell and co were only as successful as they were was because they were against amateurs is ridiculous.
